I was completely incorrect about some of my previous statements, I was assuming that the rear of the 18 pro plastic panel was jagged like the rear of the 17 pro grill, from what I could tell in pictures it look like they just recessed the honeycomb and put plexus on top. I guess I’ll order one of those panels also

Its ok , as long as we get to see and make everything right and recieved correct info for others that having same issue, now that we see light thru to this issue hope everyone have same positive result, me as well might have to order that part for the grille in order to make it work properly... i also would like to hear more jnput from the technician who installed the grille with the 2018 pro grill panel if he did something else to it...thank you everyone for excellent inputs, here is the part number again on the pix..

The install is pretty straight forward. The one step that should be done is a realignment of the radar sensor. Most on the forum probably won't get it done because once the pro grill is installed the system will work but won't be as accurate. The realignment procedure can only be performed at the dealership. It requires the use of a Techstream and a reflector/target. Basically the target is placed 9.84ft from the front of the vehicle and a specified height in the absolute middle of the vehicle. The horizontal and vertical measurement are displayed on the techstream and if they are out of spec then you enter the realignment utility program which realign the radar back to center electronically.

Yes, Ruggy, I think you are absolutely correct.

So just to clarify for anyone else that is just joining us.

I used same OEM grille for my 18 that has been being used for the 16's and 17's. But, for the 18's you will need to order one additional part. You will need the garnish that goes in the bottom of the grille in order for the TSS to work. The part number is 53141-35060 (pictured in a previous post). This part can be ordered at partsfactory.camelbacktoyota.com for $50.03 plus tax and shipping.

You will also need to have some calibrations done to make sure that it is working properly and within specs as Ruggybuggy pointed out above. The dealership I worked with installed the new grille and calibrated within about an hour. I do not know how much the calibration will cost. Keep in mind, as Ruggybuggy pointed out above, the TSS may work after installing the new grille, but may not be working correctly. For example, the lane departure may not indicate that you are veering out of your lane until you well into the other lane.

As for the Chinese grille, I do not have any answers as I bought the OEM. It appears there may be several different versions of the Chinese grille out there. I would think, though, that as long as it has the removable section at the bottom that is able to accept the garnish, it should work.

I can confirm that installing the grille and moving the TSS to the location at the bottom of the grille without using the optional garnish will not work. While it may initially appear to be working, you will soon find that it is not working correctly and will probably get error messages on the screen and warning lights letting you know.

If anyone has any questions, let me know.

Thank you for posting this valuable information!!! Now the question is: how much will the dealer charge me to realign after I install the new grill.

That is a good question. I have a feeling that this is going to be up to the individual dealer. I honestly don't think this is a long process, as I was only at the dealer for about an hour, which included installing the grille. Where are you at in Arizona?

Also, the list price for the garnish is $68.21. Toyota is apparently really proud of this part, and recommends the dealer charge $86.12. If you are going to buy the part at your local dealer, I would not pay more than $68.21 (full list). Or, you can simply order on line and save yourself some money while supporting a dealership that is not trying to rip you off. $86.12 for this shitty little piece of plastic is crazy.

@Bretsuaz48 I was understanding that the sensor that is being moved from the emblem to the port below was for radar cruise only, not lane change or anything else. From The information that I read, all the other safety features are handled in the camera by the rearview mirror

I was just using that as an example. But from what I have been told, the two systems work together. When I got my truck back, my rearview mirror was facing down which leads me to believe that it was calibrated as well. But, I am not sure.

I was just using the lane departure as an example that even though the TSS is working, it may not be working properly or correctly. Its like when you get your windshield replaced, it may appear that the system is working (no error messages or warning lights) but may still need to be calibrated by the dealership.

Curious if you, or anyone else has used the "Fake" Pro Grill from China with the part purchased from Toyota? Does everything work as it should?

I understand this mod is to replace the grill on '18 OR with '18 PRO but is it possible to install the radar only on a '17? without the windshield camera? Wonder if the '17 has the harness ready built or easy to adapt.

Look at post number 81 on this thread, it shows pictures of the back of both of the pieces . From what it looks like maybe the flatness of the piece might be the deciding factor, without the sharp edges of the honeycomb getting in the way. They are both some type of plastic material, but the new piece resembles the size , shape and smoothness of my Toyota Sequoia’s radar cruise
