I drove a Hilux in the Middle East, and I’ll tell you right now, people complain about the 3rd Gen being underpowered?

The Taco is much more like a F1 car when compared to a Hilux.

I’d neverrrrr want to try and keep up on the freeway in one. If you want to haul you and your buddies between some remote villages, yeah, can’t beat it. Driving around some shit hole where you are lucky to see gravel, a smooth road and speeds over 50? Awesomeeee.

For modern speeds and infrastructure, it’s about as useful as a brick.

It won't pass US safety or emissions. Budget/cost control is a key reason.

Turbo diesel with an intercooler lying flat underneath a functional hood scoop is fairly different too. Not all are like that of course, but after experiencing one in the mountains/boonies of Guatemala it's the only one I'd have.

The hilux is reminiscent of the Innova minivan

Correction: it’s never been tested, chicken tax. That’s why, has nothing to do with emissions or safety.

Best vehicles? Are you joking?? 95% of what’s sold here is cheap plastic crap that cater to people who want a v8 with 15 tv screens and faux leather galore, but will only pay $20k for it.

American cars are crap for the most part. Even models that are sold worldwide are often ruined when imported here with shitty old tech engines and add more plastic toys.

Take the Escalade for example. A so called luxury suv. But the dash is made from a plastic garbage can cut in half.

Dude. Go to Russia. Go to Africia. Go to INDIA! Go to CHINA! There's 3/4 of the human population right there. Now add the Middle East.
There are very few quality vehicles that are not available in the US.

I think you are getting quality versus luxury with your Cadillac comparison.

I have been to the best places and the worst shit holes on earth and drove Mercedes on the Autobahn, Land Cruisers in South America and a friggin Lada in Russia. I speak from experience, not a review from Jalopnik.
Go somewhere and drive something. Report back.

Go somewhere? Already have. Spent 25 years living outside North America and the vehicles in Europe put ones here to shame.

My vw type diesel in England in 2004 was the same engine that only made it to North America in about 2012. So it was 3 generations out of date.

Domestic cars are cheap crap. The imports are cheap versions of them to compete.
Sure you can get some good cars. But the same models sold elsewhere are normally better.

Ding ding ding! Yup, 25% tariff on trucks built overseas is a good reason we won’t see a hilux for sale here anytime soon.

I can ask my friend for a quote if you are serious. I know you cant have newer vehicle from Japan but Australia or Thailand is ok?
Assume you will have to pay for the vehicle and shipping, customs, and all other bs will cost you around 5k.

Does the "moose test" mean they are trying to steer around a imaginary moose? At least they should put up a paper moose?

No. It simulates the situation where a moose is driving the truck. Happens all the time where I live.

one more stupid ? -- how the hell do all the ISIS bad guys get ahold of their Hiluxes? Maybe Toyota should not let their dealers sell to those guys -- seems like that's all they drive when you see em waving their assenine flags
