I assume that when the Range Raptor comes out it will dent sales, but Tacoma will likely stay in the lead.

I don't doubt it, it has a different chassis than the wrangler, from what I have read about it they didn't just throw a bed on a wrangler on this one. Ram had a lot to do with designing the truck part of the JT. They had to spec it to compete with the Tacoma and all the rest of the little trucks since that is the category it will be put into. Small tow rating and payload would have killed it right off the bat. I am not sure how many they are planning to build right off the bat, but I am sure there will be a long waiting list. Everyone seems to worry about the Ranger, but I think the Scrambler is going to be the one that catches more attention and sales. And its going to have a diesel option...

It will sell and sell some more even at that price, that is not that far off from the top end optioned trucks in its class. And if it doesn't Fiat is not beyond steep discounting on their products. Wranglers usually have no discounts but other Jeep products often have lots of different discount options. I am not saying it will drastically change Toyotas hold on the small truck market, but I think it will change the numbers around a good bit. Ram is also rumored to bring their own mid size truck to market as well. I am going to be that one will have more towing and payload than all of them to capture the guys that need just a little more from a truck but still don't want a full size. Not to mention the resale value on the JT is going to be insane for years and years to come as well. I think this one is the sleeper or small elephant in the room none of the other manufactures want to talk about.

    Agree 100%

It will sell like hot cakes

I don’t see it impacting Tacoma sales at all

ConvertIble + 4 door + bed = heck even I want one. If I can get over my lifelong big 3 hatred, I will buy a 2nd year model

Bought eight different JK's from 2008 to 2016. With each one thinking they work out the problems. NOT! It would take an hour to list all the problems with Wranglers. Will NEVER buy another Chrysler product again.

That’s what I hear from all fca owners. Which is why I will never buy one

However it doesn’t seem to impact sales or resale

So there are enough people who don’t care about reliability

I think it all depends on luck of the draw, I have had 4 Jeeps and 3 different rams and none of them have had any unusual problems, not that they have the longterm reputation of high mileage reliablity the Toyotas do, but I have actually had more issues with my Tacoma than I did with any of the Rams or Jeeps. That being said, the Toyotas seem to shine with their ability to rack up a lot of miles with little large component overhaul. That is not the case with some of the big 3. One of the reasons I traded my Ram in on the Tacoma was that I still needed the truck bed but I also needed the resale value of a Wrangler. The tacoma fit the bill.

Jeep wranglers are quirky vehicles, I have had good luck with them but I tend to not tinker with them as much as others. I have a stock CJ7 from 1985 that is still kicking as well. The Wrangler resale market is something to behold though, I put 150K on a 05 Rubicon unlimited and five years after I bought it sold it for 5K less than I paid new. But they are pretty much impractical for most peoples needs.

Thing I don’t understand is wrangler is an incredibly simple vehicle

If Toyota can make a corolla go 200k Miles with eyes closed, why can’t wranglers be reliable while being simple?

My experience has been with the TJ series and if unmolested they are plenty capable of 200K or more with the 4.0 inline 6. People tend to tinker and screw them up long before then. The new JK's have a lot of quirky electronics and other issues that plague it. The square body jeeps are known for their high mileage reliability as well. But in my experience they are not the type of vehicle you can disregard maintenance and expect to not have issues. They are simple, and simple to solve problems with as well. If you have a kid that really needs to learn to work on and maintain a vehicle, buy him or her a wrangler because eventually they are going to have to learn to troubleshoot!

Well JK are simple machines as well.

Is what you say, due to cheap components from suppliers or from their famous laborers?

Could be I guess, I'm sure the fellas that build the tacoma down in Texas have probably never kicked back a few cold ones in the parking lot...

I will say that I never had howling, whistling at speed, transmission hunting, cheap soft plastic, soft paint that chips at every turn, by 40K with any of my other 35K plus vehicles that I have ever bought. The only thing Toyota has left to convince me that they are any better than anyone else is to bring that legendary reliability and high mileage resale....so I guess I will see how it goes.

The Tacoma is a pretty mean looking vehicle with aggressive lines.

The Ridgeline looks weird to me. The GM twins have that Hilux fighter look. The Ranger has the same look. I don't like that foreign look. I don't think the American market in general likes that foreign look.

strange that the Tacoma looks more American.

I saw a Ranger parked out side a neighbors house. I took some pictures. I'd say it's better overall than the Colorado. This is the Mexican Variant I believe.

Those world rangers do look pretty tough, and I have seen some of them abused and they are no worse for wear.
