You can set the distance that you want to follow and you can also hold the cruise on/off button for 2 seconds when you turn it on to use the cruise like a regular cruise control.

It's not a problem with it needing to "work better". I'd hardly call it a "worthless and annoying feature". It sounds like perhaps you just were not familiar enough with the system (understandable being a rental). Adapative/Dynamic CC systems (at least all I have used) offer quick adjustment features which allow you to quickly adjust the distance on the fly. Obviously, in your case, it sounds like you had it set at the furthest distance. From what I've read the Tacoma will offer 3 settings for that, which will be controlled from the steering wheel buttons. That's how my Jeep is too, but it has 4 settings. But you just click up or down depending on how much room you want to leave between vehicles.

he probably thinks the black strips between the front/rear windows is painted black on the 3rd gen, when its actually painted the same color as the truck ....

try not to take everything at face value on Toyota functions.

So this press release describes the limited as having “leather” seats and the premium pkg for sport and off road as having “leather trimmed”. Is there a difference here?

Leather trimmed in vehicles like the Camry will have cloth in the center of the seat, and then the edges will be trim in their SofTex leather. That is my best guess.

What sucks about it to me in our highlander was no matter the setting(3 different distance settings) it never let me hey close enough for some asshat driving slow in the fast lane got the hint and got out of the way, we would both just be driving along like idiots going slow in the fast lane

"Leather-trimmed" typically means that the seating surfaces are leather, while the sides and back are vinyl.

Thanks, yeah I realize this. I guess I’m asking if the Limited is leather trimmed or full leather, since it was described differently. Maybe I’m just reading too much into it.

Technically you shouldn't exceed the speed limit.

Gotcha. I would assume it's the same leather on both, and i would assume it's leather trimmed rather than full leather, but you never know.

Hope there's a choice in the color of leather for the Limited and not just the Hickory

If its like the system in a 17 rav4 and it probably is, even on the closest setting it kicks in too quick.

So you want the system to allow you to basically tailgate someone (even just briefly)? It makes perfect sense that it wouldn’t allow that. My Jeep GC won’t with its 4 distance settings. I can definitely get fairly close on the close setting, but not more than a couple car lengths away, which always leaves plenty of room for braking, etc. I wouldn’t fault the system for that; unless I’m misunderstanding, what you are describing is not what it’s designed to do.

Interesting. I hope it works as well as our Jeep GC. We’ll see. The Jeep has 4 settings versus 3 so maybe Toyota just isn’t offering as close a distance.

Not per the Toyota press release:
"Each of the engines can be teamed to a six-speed Electronically Controlled Automatic Transmission with intelligence (ECT-i), or the V6 can also be paired with a 6-speed manual transmission."
    :-(

EDIT - I'm quite happy with mine, just sad to see it discontinued. Especially considering that means no newer parts for the 5 speed MT, given that they just updated it for 2016.
