    Right, but how different can the top gear ratio be? My fourth to his fifth. Mine is .705:1. That yields 2036 rpms at 65 mph with stock tires and gears. With 4.88 gears and 33" tires, rpms increase to 2287 (per Crawlpedia calculator). Can't imagine a 2nd gen is much different in the end.

    Just found a transmission gear ratio chart on Marlin Crawler's website. The 6th gear ratio for the 3rd gen AT is 0.58:1. That's why 5.29s make sense. I'd be almost 2500 rpms at 65 with 5.29s.

    I know i wanted a shell for camping in the rain/snow. I didnt wanna deal with packing a wet RTT. Potential mildew, maintenance or effort trying to prevent said mildew.

    Id love to have a garage and a hoist where i could swap summer/winter setups. Maybe one day. Because the bed racks and RTT look cool #forthegram . #idonthaveagram

    Yes, I know. But it's not relevant to my original question. Wasn't trying to compare my truck to his. I was curious about how much his rpms changed at normal freeway speeds. I'd only be interested in the top gear ratio. All the others don't matter.

    Word on the street is you want to be around 2000 rpms at 60 mph to stay near factory performance (fuel economy, shift points etc.). According to that handy chart, the 2nd gen 6-spd MT (RA60F) has a 6th gear ratio of 0.849, the AT (A7850F) is 0.716, the latter being close enough to 0.705 to make no difference.

    So, I'd say 1st and 2nd gen ATs are essentially the same cruising on the freeway at 65. Either way, I'm regearing.

    Yeah, around 2,800 or so (it's a MT) and around 3600 when at 85 mph. Well below red line. My knee was sore the first week from all the extra shifting though.

    When I plug in 5.29 axle, 33", 65MPH, 0.58trans I get 2031RPM. 80MPH gives me 2500RPM.
