Does anyone know of an OBDII scanner (under $200) that works with 2018? I bought an Autel MD806PRO on 09/27/2019 and it doesn't do anything for Toyo after 2017! And still no software(free lifetime??) update today. Anyone?

I use a Scan Gauge 2 for my Tacoma and Camry.
Not only does it show and hold any fault codes but it will also show you engine functions such as trans, oil and water temps, RPM, MPH, volts, current gear, engine load and several other bits of info.

Check Advanceauto.com and use the coupon code. I bought mine last year for about 80.00 shipped to my house.

I've got two different Innova models (one of which pre-dates my truck) and both work fine for basic stuff. As mentioned, the Scan Gauge works very well, and for 'heavy lifting' I have a Launch bi-directional diagnostic tool.

Thanks. TacoinMD and Tirediron (I'm a Tired old squid), I don't want to go "professional" $$! 80 bucks sounds right and I'll look at Innova too, I paid under $200 for a useless paperweight, with no updates in sight!
    Appreciate!!!

Stock wheels and suspension. Random "utilitarian" mods featured on this great forum.
I think the better question is what do you need or expect it to do? For simple OBD read, any cheap Chinese knockoff will work. For bidirectional control, you need something more OE level. The X431 Diagun has some of those capabilities. If you need more functions, you need techstream knockoff or shell out at least 5x's as much.

I have an AP200, comes with some functions but a purchase of a vehicle brand gives you lifetime updates. I don't have Toyotas yet; Hyundai one works great and its $50 on sale.

I've been putting off getting a scan gauge. I should've just done it already

Thanks everyone!, My main concern is will it work on my 2018,Tacoma. I'm not a pro mechanic, but I want the usual read, reset codes, what most under $200 machines will do.
It's hard to find out if any machine will work on a specific year and model. I don't want to spend money and find out after the fact that it won't work on my truck and takes three or four years for the software to catch up with my year vehicle. I contacted Autel last week about the MD806Pro they are selling now and they said my truck was "such a new vehicle" (build date 06/18) that
    it wasn't covered.

The basic scanning & clearing that everyone is mentioning in this thread is not vehicle specific, so if that Autel unit works for any vehicle at all, it will also work for your 2018 Tacoma. Have you tried just telling it, it’s a 2017 Tacoma? You should be able to read clear list any standard ODBII crap and also any specific Tacoma stuff it may have.

Thanks SKYDVRR, and Mutely, it won't recognize the Taco when I turn it on, it automatically searches for the VIN and there is not a way to 'fool' it that I can see.
It works on my '16 Mazda3. Thanks for the return, anyhoo!

What an absolutely atrocious design for a scanner tool, so stupid. But doesn’t surprise me from Autel.

Free TechStream in my signature. You do need a good USB adapter to use it though. The Tactrix adapter is excellent, but pricey for what you want to do.

As was said above, any cheap wireless reader should work (ELM327 clones). But for $30, you can get the Carista adapter:
    https://caristaapp.com/adapter

With it, you can set customizations, like turning the seat belt chime off, adjusting the number of turn signal flashes, etc. The adapter will also work with all the other apps.

I have the carista off Amazon, use obd fusion with Toyota add-ons. Got carista solely to change things dealership wouldn't, seat belt chime turned off. No need to subscribe monthly, Amazon one comes with 1 free month of carista service.

Unfortunately $160 at Advance Auto. Code brings it down to 130. $80 would be awesome!

Install Techstream. Problem solved, and you can do so much more.

If you have a laptop, buy a techstream knockoff for less than $20 on ebay. I use version 14.x with my 2018 and works great.

Why go to eBay when it is in my sig for free? Unless you are saying that yours came with a USB adapter? If so and it is reliable for connecting and such, you might want to link it up as some won't establish a connection. As long as you are not flashing a TSB, it should be good?
