Wife forced her ugly husband to buy a minivan. He buys a $55,000 minivan to raise his self esteem while he goes through his midlife crisis with 4 kids to boot.

Your neighbor is an idiot. :D

4D Taco!? Never could understand those things with a stumpy bed...can hardly do anything with them...even the 6'bed is mostly worthless. Have to augment mine with a 5X8' trailer.

I am looking a mid roof 148" wheelbase Transit....plenty under $30K....low mile used market under $20K.

It is like a blank canvas for utility. I am short enough, can stand up in them, change into my cycling or moto gear...haul 3 dirt bikes...if I want to haul passengers toss in a rear seat. You can order them with dual sliding side doors. 3 different engine options. NA V6, Ecoboost, or a diesel. There is an available e-locker for them.

If you can find a used one for $20K...do a Quigley 4WD conversion for $12K...you're right at Tacoma prices. Yeah, think I am done with Toyota...it was a good run of owning them for the last 26 years, but they continue to disappoint.

This is still mind boggling to me - a 40k truck should have key access from both sides of the truck. if my wifes 2012 prius c has it, then sure as hell my truck should

Yeah, think I am done with pickups...and I have been driving them for 33 years now (started driving when I was 12 or so). At the Ford dealership yesterday, they had a F150 crew cab with 5.5' bed...$58'000....geebas!. Nearly $60K...and you can barely haul anything in the bed.

Had buddy visit this past spring...had a F150, then a Tacoma...bought a Sprinter high roof 140" wheelbase. We were getting ready to go mountain biking...trail head was slammed...awfully nice getting changed into cycling gear, inside...no trying to change in the passenger seat, or standing out side with towel...or just saying "F" it and let it all hangout for the world to see...that might get you arrested :D ....that and keep the bikes in there too, out sight out of mind...plus he had it setup to camp/sleep in. He consistently gets 25 mpg out of that big ol thing...the track and wheel base is almost identical to a DCLB Tacoma, but so much more versatile. yeah you give up some off-road prowl-ness. But that is why we ride mountain and dirt bikes.

I was taking some measurements on the Transit...I seriously started drooling over what I can fit in there. Lotsa ideas on Outside Van. I can build all that, and make my own Transit dirt bag version.

To each his own. Sounds like you have made up your mind.

I had to drive an Econoline around NYC for work when I was a kid.
I still remember what a pita it was, limited visibility behind, and driving over bridges on windy days was always interesting.
Funny how some experiences ruin you for life, lol. I will never own a van.

The best thing about a mid size truck besides the versatility is the ease driving, navigating in and around traffic, and parking. I can haul large/ tall oversized objects when needed.

Some guys I work with drive vans and swear by them, but to me the mid sized access cab is as close to perfect pickup truck as will ever be.

Even though I don't utilize my truck as much as I did when I was young and hungry, I will probably never drive anything but a pickup.

Always admired those really old guys driving vintage trucks in good condition. Always had the air of "original owner" about them in my mind.

Hopefully that will be me in 30 years, lol.

    Good luck with the Transit.

Is this Tacoma World or Utility Van World? I'm confused as to how anyone in this thread would knock a Tacoma for any reason and in the same sentence justify a freaking van.

Is there not a van forum out there for those folks?

I never have to question whether I'm in a 3rd gen thread or not, I can smell misery from a mile away :rofl:Just kidding!
From what I've read, half these posts are "I'm done with trucks, VANS, VANS, VANS, VANS, VANS!"
Y'all are walking a thin wire here, buy up the 17's and hope 18 owners don't start threads on their own... Cause TW will be nada, out of here. Rough ride ahead.
From the words of Ned Stark, "18's are coming" :smash:

Toyota sees dedicated gas and diesel engines in its vehicles lineup reducing down to zero by the 2040s, on its path to to its goal of reducing the CO2 emissions of its vehicles by 90 percent by 2050 compared to 2010. Toyota's Chief Safety Technology Officer Kiyotaka Ise noted that this is their anticipated timeframe for ending the production of gas and diesel cars at a press conference hosted by the company at the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show today.

The timeline is close to the target dates mentioned by some other companies, and matches up with the ban targets set by a number of countries, including France and the UK, with China also announcing plans to set a timeline for the end of purely internal combustion engine vehicles.

This doesn't mean that Toyota will sell only electric vehicles from the 2040s on – the company has been one of the slowest movers among automakers when it comes to building purely electric cars, and it has repeatedly said that it believes the best strategy is to embrace a range of powertrain options, including fuel cell and hybrid vehicles, to suit the needs of different markets around the world.

Internal combustion tech will still be used from the 2040s on, Use said, via hybrid engines, but the use of purely ICE drivetrains won't make sense after this date given the company's aggressive emissions targets and the progress of its technology in hybrid powertrain options.

This article originally appeared on TechCrunch.

    The future.

We had 4 of those E-Series vans for our service vehicles when we owned a swimming pool/wood burning stove biz...those things suck. Swore I would never own another van. Transits/Sprinters are completely different animals...drive like car. Great view of the road...now with back up cameras standard...backing up is a breeze.

Yeah, always been a truck guy...then it just hit me...these new euro-style vans are a lot more versatile...and I am finding I am getting annoyed with pickups.

Did the VW Westy thing for about 8 years...liked the idea of it...but the vehicle itself is a POS. Transit will be a modern version of it...and a Hell of a lot more useful.
