2018 OR rear diff not engaging

    Diff lock works rarely. Mostly when tried the light just blinks

    Read the manual. Most of the reason it does not work is user error unfortunately. Good luck!

    Does it have to be in 4LO? I drove an FJ Cruiser a while back and I had to put it in 4LO for the diff lock to engage.

    I was just searching for others with the same issue... Mine just started to not engage.

    It has worked fine every month when I test it, however after doing my monthly run down a dirt road with 4x4 activated, my diff lock would just flash and not engage like it typically. would.

    Will continue to search.

    Turn the steering wheel left and right while moving forward or backward slowly (basically to get the LH and RH axle shafts to line up).

    To engage the diff lock, unless it is lined up by fluke, typically requires one rear wheel to spin, or the truck to travel in an arc, so the wheels turn at different speeds until the diff lock lines up.

    -If you press the button in 2WD: nothing. Ford shows their genius here. My F150 rear locker is available anytime, in any drive mode, below a certain speed. Ford has engineering geniuses that Toyota cannot match.

    -If you press the button in 4Hi: nothing, just beeps and blinks (buy a Ford).

    -If you press the button in 4Lo: expect to have to turn the truck slightly or spin a wheel slightly (if stuck) until it locks.

    -If you press the button in 4Lo and drive in a straight line: nothing, just beeps and blinking unless by fluke it’s all lined up.

    I understand it has to be in 4Lo and in nuetral. It rarely engages.

    You need to be in Drive or Reverse and moving. The locker won't engage in neutral most of the time.

    Hmm I was going in a straight line when mine failed to engage today, ill give it a try while turning so the axles line up. All prior times it locked in rather quickly.

    Agreed. In all the research I've done on F150's, I finally came to a Tacoma and was shocked to learn you have to be in 4 Lo to engage the locker. Makes zero sense to me, but what do I know? The best workaround people have been able to come up with is the 2Lo mod.

    Eh.... you need to be moving in 2wLO for it to engage, albeit slowly.

    If its not engaging, make sure your axles arent turning at the same speed IE turn one way or the other for a bit till it engages.

    Yup mine has always clicked right in going straight, I guess that was just a lucky fluke!

    After going out and getting one wheel to turn faster than the other (slip, or turn) the rear locked right up.

    I'm surprised there isn't some sort of 'mod' that can be done to allow 2WD engagement of the rear locker? Or did I miss it somewhere?
