Hello. My description details my truck I’m referring to but the 19/21/24 MPG can vary tremendously. I’ve stuck with Cheveron 89 octane after experimenting with many vehicles over the years and for me it’s worth .10 more..for me. However more real world MPG average is not 21 but more like 19.5. I have gotten 30mpg average while on the highway going 60mph with no stop and go traffic on the freeway. Add Southern California daily commute stop and go traffic for hours and it drops way down to around 10-12. So there are some variations to add like incline vs downhill and temperature. Elevation is generally 1000-1500 ft. It’s been a while since I’ve owned a truck and since my ‘14 Accord was totalled last month I just have to get used to almost a 10mpg loss. I can get an average on the freeway around 25 if I stick to 55-60mph and let the semi’s pass me which I’m fine with. I just think the sticker was under the best conditions like no traffic , low elevation, empty tank, no passengers or cargo etc. I’m still at the complaining stage until I become adjusted to it or accept it stage but Southern Ca with my $600 registration I just paid and my $4.15 a gallon isn’t letting me enjoy my Toy 100%

EPA/DOT conduct these tests, at perfect world conditions. And they’re also trying to sell the vehicle. Connect the dots here. Never expect to get the MPG that’s advertised. Too many variable factors for all the vehicles throughout the country. Sounds like you’re in the ballpark for MPG that most stock Tacoma owners get in their 3rd gen.

Agreed. The only reason I was expecting to get really close was my ‘14 accord nailed it sometimes better than sticker. But eh, I get it. It’s also not a truck!

    Thx for your feedback

As stated above, it’s an EPA mandated test that changes slightly over the years to account for driving style and conditions etc. There are so many variations to how people drive that it can never predict for everyone.

Also wait until 10-20k miles to really get a feel for mpg. In the summer (ideal fuel and road conditions etc), I consistently picked up mpg average year to year as my mileage on the truck increased. Searching this site will yield similar results from others. Some can be attributed to learned habits while driving the same vehicle, but your results might show the same.

How does it look? Do we really need to answer that?

Ok now take the EPA numbers and adjust them to your driving style, climate, geography, traffic volume & flow, number of cold starts, tire pressure, cargo, modifications etc etc.

It's just a base line. Some vehicles exceed it, some are close, many are worse because everyone is in a hurry and fuel is cheap.

I did. Excellent fuel choice as stated. Driving style very very conservative. Under speed limit and slow take offs. Climate is hot. And elevation is low. Tire pressure set cold to door specs. I think it’s just the sticker is not as forgiving for real world conditions as some vehicles. Specifically car are more forgiving and I think trucks are know for less thank great mpg so I think they try to be as optimistic as possible. Like I said. I’ll just have to get used to it. There’s nothing wrong with it. It had 7 miles at purchase and it’s a bad ass looking truck as stock so no complaints from that stand point. I definitely didn’t come on this forum to bash his baby. Just commenting. Thx for the opinions

I drove my truck at sea level in the parking lot we called I-95 going to DC. For those that don't know it, DC regularly battles LA for worst traffic in the US. Now that I moved out to CO, I live and drive at 7500 feet with highway speeds at 75 and my I average the same in CO as I did in VA/DC sitting around 19/20

I do NOT miss the Manassas to Pentagon commute on the daily and I only did it for a few months. How my Dad still does it after 13 years, I will never know...

I drive a Honda and a 14 Tacoma, and, well,a Tacoma sure aint a Honda. Most of the Toyota' speedometers show about 3 miles per hour more than you are actually going. My only experience with a 3 gen Tacoma is that I drove a Toyota Pro on a 120 mile trip last year and it did like gas, just a little better than my 14 Taco, it has those BIG tires and it was not easy to drive on that trip, not my idea of a truck that i would have. My 14 drives well and fairly smoothly, gets my about 18-19 mpg over the years I have had it. I surely miss my old Honda Hybrid which was consistently at 40mpg. for what I have hauled, I could have did just as well with my Civic. The new non hybrid Civics can get around 40 mpg without being a hybrid. Just different strokes for different folks. A Corolla driven sensibly can get around 40 mpg too and they are nice cars too. I also have driven the new Ridgelines more than a few times, and they beat the window mpg fairly good, again, driven sensibly. I move different cars between auctions, and between dealers too, in case you wondered about me driving different vehicles.

Sounds about right. I suppose I’d rather get a more likely mpg sticker than best case senerio. Then If I get higher I feel like I won than feeling duped. Overall I’ll get used to it. Although not as comfortable I sure enjoy driving it and it’s a bad ass looking truck. You can tell when the “other” trucks are looking at yours at a stop light

Our family owns honda cars. They always get exactly what the window sticker shows. I suppose they are one of these few honest manufacturers out there.

Like others have said, don't judge until you get a few thousand miles on it. I am at just over 6k and it has gotten better with time. I drove it ~400 mi this week interstate and got 25.5 mpg averaging right at 70 mph. I now average about 21-22 per tank in mixed driving.

Living in Utah at 4500-5,000 feet in elevation with mountains and hills everywhere I was lucky to get 15 when it was stock.
