My family contains people who love to own the latest and greatest when it comes to German and Japanese luxury vehicles. I'm so overly immersed in safety features when I've driven these cars, it makes me sick, from the adaptive stupid cruise control, to lane drift warning, sensors that stop the vehicle from hitting pedestrians, even damn night vision on the gauge clusters. I even had my fathers S-class try to kill me last year when it hit the brakes thinking a car that was park awkwardly and pointing more into the residential road, was a pedestrian of some sort. Even while being a fair distance away, it still activated the feature and hit the brakes so hard we lost traction, thank god we didn't do more than slide 20 or so feet due to the ice, and not end up smashed into a vehicle on either side of that street. So again, I know about, I've experienced all of it, and I will continue to hate it, especially when it's in an MB, and I don't want that garbage in my Tacoma.

It is a game to back up to a trailer for me without assistance. Put the tongue about there on the edge of the tailgate, backup to about there using the side mirrors to center the truck between the trailer fenders... how good did we do? Usually I get it pretty close and I have to adjust the up and down of the tongue anyway.

As far as backing up against something, if I turn my head to the right and look over the tailgate I can see how close the back of the truck is to things.

    Absolutely.

Toyota Executive #1- Hey what about the 1% of our buyers that want to lift their Tacomas.

Toyota Executive #2- Yeah you're right scrape all this new high tech safety crap so they can put 32.7" tires on there trucks.

This is another interesting point. I'd imagine that a degree change in the front would be worse than a height change.

I had the full TSS on my '16 Camry. The adaptive cruise control worked great. It had three distances you could program and did a great job. The bigger the vehicle in front the sooner it would be recognized. It also seemed to work just fine when following motorcycles. The one thing that drove me batty on the Camry was the lane departure warning. I turned it off at all times. It worked fine on major highways but "yelled" too much on rural roads.

Yeah I’m not a fan of that stuff to begin with, and especially don’t want it during winter driving conditions. I usually turn traction and stability control off when it’s bad out, the last thing I need is a computer hitting the brakes erroneously and putting me in the ditch.

Even my lowly 17 SR is the most aided vehicle I’ve owned, only one before even had ABS and it didn’t work properly. I can deal with the nannies I have when it’s dry but I trust my experience and instinct when the going gets tough.

I’m the OP- UPDATE— my dealership called me tonight and they verified that no dealership will be altering 2018 Tundras or Tacomas as it’s strictly forbidden by Toyota Corp. Some guys have said they’ve driven lifted 2018 Tundras but the dealerships will not sell them like that as it voids the power train and TSS warranties.

Its just Toyota being ahead of the government. Everything will have to have all of those systems within the next few years. Just like tire pressure sensors and back up cameras. All of the sensors are adjustable. You should be able to re-calibrate after lifting the truck to make it work the same. 6" lifts may be a little harder to do though.

At least it’s not as ugly as the new GM safety and adaptive cruise system.

No biggie. Dealerships grossly overcharge for that stuff anyway.

This can't be true ...it must be some sort of global conspiracy to nudge me into trading my F150 in on a '16-'17 Tacoma :annoyed::D

A back step for when I get older, Carhartt seatcovers, 4Runner wheels, Topper, and "tats all folks"! --for now!!
I am actually of thinking I may be able to sell my 17 AC for a really great price to get a 18 0r 19 WITH the full safety sense! I would have got it on my 17 if it was available then. I would have waited had I not felt it was time to put my 02 F150 up for sale.
Oh BTW our insurance rates went down when we replaced our 08 CRV with our 15 Subaru Outback with Eyesight ( same stuff as Saftey sense)

Yeah. I’m glad I made it by 2017. The bright side is, this truck is gonna be styling hard for the remainder of my heathen days. I won’t need another new truck.
