Hi, i am planning on buying a new Tacoma in the upcoming weeks. should i wait for the 2018 model?

also i have a second generation and have an extra key when i go and do watersports so that the beeper doesn't get wet. is there a way to get a key only that wont be damaged by water for the 3rd gen Tacoma?

    1. If you want the added safety features, then yes. Otherwise, maybe get a deal on a leftover 2017 model.
    2. This works great.

Another option would be to manually lock the fob in the vehicle with the tailgate key, which just happens to work in the lock cylinder on the drivers door.
Decent deals/financing on '17's right now, and it's unlikely Toyota will add anything extra cool on the '18's. Unless you want the OR model in cement....

If you don't have the Pushbutton start, you can get a key cut at local hardware store. They try to charge $150 or something ridiculous for a chipped key. You don't need it. I had my LHS cut a key blank so I can go windsurfing and have the key in a pouch I carry. It will unlock/lock the doors and set or disable the alarm from using the handle key cylinder. It will turn over the engine but will not start the truck. If the key with fob is close enough, it will start the truck but you get a warning or something stating the key is not in the ignition and I think it shuts off the engine.

I accidentally washed my fob, but it caught before the dryer. I took it apart and hit with the hair dryer and it is fine.

Using the tailgate key with the fob in the car seems like a good work around. I'll probably just use a drybag.
