2018 Tacoma battery life

2017 Tacoma, stock battery, 24k miles

 

2016 51k miles. Lives outdoors never and garaged once. Still going

 

2016 battery died after 15 months at a car wash. Luckily auto zone was a half mile a way, still a pain to carry a battery both ways

 

My OEM battery lasted about 18 months. Dealer refused to warranty it because I have “too many accessories.”

They disregard the fact that everything is running off the second battery and only connected with an ACR.

 

The original battery in my '16 is still going. 70,xxx miles later

 

i could be wrong but Southern California specifically the inland valleys has a lot more sunny/ excessive heat days. For about 4 months we rock 90-110 degrees.

although supposedly the extreme cold does the same.

 

I do believe he went to the Interstate Factory where they displayed an car battery at 7 different stages of Deterioration

My battery just died today. 2018, 21k miles.

 

2016, 22k miles, garage/2 amp battery tender, not daily driven, stock battery is showing a little discharge around the ground post but works fine.

 

Toyota like any manufacturer goes to battery manf. and requests bids for batteries from companies at a specific price point... Companies build these batteries cheap to get the bid hoping they will make the warranty period just like the do at Walmart.. Johnson Controls also makes Walmart Batteries and many others under different names..

This is an accurate statement.

 

Your "discharge" is probably due to the tender. Hope you don't leave it on all the time. The battery simply needs to be topped off then the tender should be removed.

 

"All" is a pretty strong statement, but not too out of line.

 

It was in the news this past summer.

 

My truck didn’t start today. It was a bad negative connection (just had to clean the terminal) but i’m at a year and a half in in SoCal. Might need to keep an eye on this. Sadly, my job doesn’t really allow for being late or time off

I thought the whole idea of a tender was to maintain a battery when it's not in use for some extended period, not simply charge it. Leakage around a post is due to gases escaping because the seal has become compromised which can happen for many reasons including manufacturing defect, heavy vibration or other mechanical stresses on the terminal such as beating the connector on with a hammer. These failures are usually covered under warranty without much resistance by the retailer.
