Lol, lied. Battery was done on my 2018. 40,000 miles and daily driven only. No accessories and stock radio

Yeah, and the tenders usually have automatic float mode so it doesn't over charge. I had the same tender on my motorcycle for about 2 years without issue. It has the original 10 year old battery. I would not be surprised if vibration was the cause of my ground terminal getting loose. It's definitely not because of the tender.

Not a third gen owner, but I returned an Interstate to Costco a while back that only went a couple years in my wife's car. They replaced it, and lo and behold the second one started to crap in a year and a half. I looked inside, and it was pretty low on water. I capped it off with distilled water and charged it up, and it's been fine for about 5 months so far. I wonder if they are just spitting them out so fast, the water level is low and they aren't fully charged?

The problem with most tenders is that they continue to push power into an already charged battery. I agree with the seal failure possibility and it has been my experience that the gases produced from constant over charging escape via the path of least resistance. As far as warranty coverage is concerned, that's outside of my area. Most tenders are simple and cheap with little over charge protection. A decent brand is a Ctek.

Mine lasted around 50k. When it died, got a bigger/better battery. All good!

    My '05 battery lasted 7 or 8 years. '18 battery 15 months, same usage. MIL's '16 RAV4 looks about ready for it's 3rd battery...

How does the Toyota reimbursement work? I'd rather source my own battery this time.

My '97 could sit for a month in the winter and start without drama. Looks like another Plus in the "1st Gen-Best Gen" column.

If your current battery goes bad when the dealerships are closed or during an emergency you can buy a replacement and send the receipt to Toyota, the address is in the manual.

Bought my truck in January of 2016. About two months ago, I went out to go start it to go to work, and nada. Thought maybe I left a light on or something, so I put the charger on it for several hours, voltage was still down around 10v.

I thought that was 2gen only since voltage is regulated by the ECU on the 3rd gens.

So, unless you do the mod it won't fully charge a AGM battery? Definitely shortens the life of a AGM battery then.

My wife’s old 2006 Impala SS, needed a battery every year in July for some reason, usually when it’s well over 100 degrees outside

Heat is harder on wet cell batteries than sub zero.

What mod are you referring to? The only mod I'm aware of for 3gens is a new alternator. Unless I missed a thread somewhere. And yes, if your alternator is not putting out sufficient voltage, this can shorten the life of an AGM. A monthly (or after a significant discharge) top off with a proper charger/maintainer will mitigate that.
