Anyone tracking an alignment issue with rear bumpers on 2018 Tacoma’s? I have an ‘18 TRD Sport and dealership tried to adjust but just comes that way from factory. They had an identical one in showroom had same issue. They’ve opened a ticket with Toyota, just wondering if anyone else has noticed this.

Yes, almost every rear bumber is this way. There is a thread on how to fix/adjust this yourself if dealer say's it's normal. Going to fix/adjust mine when it warm's up here.

Welcome to the forum. While you are at it check your bed alignment first, if its off get a T55 Torx bit and adjust it yourself. That may make the bumper alignment better or worse but its a lot easier to align the bed than the bumper. I looked at 10 tacos on the dealers lot and 9 of them had either bed, bumper or both out of alignment. Its how Toyota makes them (there's a video around here somewhere that show the assembly process) and they don't do a final adjustment after assembly!

That's way too far off to be acceptable. Hopefully you can get that squared away.

My 2018 bumper looks just like this one. My bed is also pretty far off. I plan on adjusting the bed when I put my bed stiffeners in.

Yup! I'm a Quality Manager and when I saw the video of the assembly process I knew what the "problem" was right away. They install the bumper to the frame and then drop the bed onto the frame and screw it down. Pat their self's on the back and drive it away. Some of the ones I saw had much larger gaps that pictured here. It would be easy for Toyota to adjust them in the factory if they weren't so interested in cutting corners to save a buck. A simple solution would be to put indexing tabs on the frame for the bumper and bed to aid assembly.

My bed is right on. Wish it was off, easier to the adjust bed than that dam bumper. Bumper is off, just as bad as OP's.

I am hoping that when I adjust the bed the bumper will look better. It sounds like they aren’t connected in some way, correct?

By going off the pics above (identical to mine gap wise) I would pull the driver side of the bed back and maybe push the passenger side of the bed towards the cab? Hoping that’s the way my bed needs to go. I can’t remember right now. I just know it’s off left to right and front to back.

Nope, not connected, the only way to adjust bumper is to remove black pad and adjust it on bracket. You have to remove Lic plate/ fastener behind and plate lights first.

Hopefully adjusting the bed will line it all up! If not, I’ll eventually adjust the bumper.

Does anyone have a link to the thread how to for bed/bumper adjustment? I’m on mobile right now. If not I can check tonight.

Can't find it on TW. But if you google, Victory 4x4 Toyota Tacoma 3rd Gen Strike Bumper Installation. YouTube Video.
He explains very well how to remove step pad to access bolts for adjustment. Pain in the ass.

Mine looks worse than this one. If the bed alignment were off, where would that be seen/measured? I don’t see that it is, but I hadn’t noticed the bumper, either.

Check side to side bedside to cab, looking from back of truck. Also distance bed/box to cab, same both sides. Should be around 5/8" to 3'4" thumb width.

I checked mine just now. Of course to get my bed straight its going to make my bumper to bed alignment even worse ha I was hoping it would be the exact opposite, but its not. Oh well I will adjust the entire bed and then do the bumper.

My bed was way off alignment with the cab. I adjusted it after installing bed stiffeners.
    1. Before picture of left side.
    2. After picture of right side.

Prior to adjusting, entire width of tape inserted easily into left gap with room to spare.

    3&4:
After adjustment, bed is aligned with cab on both sides.
Bumper is only slightly off alignment now. 417AD195-0B3B-413A-8420-C7EE5F8DDC97.jpg D2B7E212-28ED-4BCB-A968-B7C5791BFC0C.jpg 06C81D5E-0F95-42B0-B689-BA666C64C25B.jpg CBA6FC2C-2C0E-4B63-9C59-FCB4AC1FC7F9.jpg
