Give this a try. This is a totally doable job. This thread is for bumper only. Good luck! https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/oem-rear-bumper-alignment.506232/

The 3rd gen bumpers are cheap & flimsy. My regular cab 2014 Tacoma is much stronger, solid & stiffer compared to my 2016

Hahahaha the 2nd gen bumpers and tailgates were just pieces of crap. I went through 3 of them, they bent when you love tapped anything.

I threw those black bumper caps on, any chance I knocked the bumper out of alignment?
My tailgate looks off, I'm assuming it is a factory issue.

The dealership took off my bumper and tried to realign but said there wasn’t any wiggle room. I didn’t know about the bed alignment issue, so I’m going to check that out and might take it back. I’m all about making Toyota fix it!

Btw, I’ve sat in multiple courses in last 6-months that talk about how Toyota has perfected its methods (efficiency) and the key was a rigorous QC program...

In my experience, there is a little wiggle room. Not a lot and I had to adjust both sides slightly to make it even. One side in and the other side out but I had it even in the end. If you can’t even it out by moving both sides you might check the bed also. I loosened the middle section as well for a little more play. Good luck!

The 1st gen bumpers were the best, at least they were metal

Mine is the same. It bothered me for about a week. I figured someone will eventually hit it, allowing for a plate bumper replacement.

Mine got the same problem, I noticed that after I back into the wall slowly. I thought the impact caused the shifting of the bumper. Then it turned out it was the factory defects , and even my tailgate isn't perfectly aligned.
