I will start by saying I know these 3.5 engines are noisy, and the typical ticking is the fuel injector cycle which is normal. That being said I have noticed today a new "ticking" noise that has started coming somewhere from the drivers side engine area. It constantly starts and stops in random intervals. It is fairly loud. See video link below for noise. Sound normal? Anyone else get this on their Tacoma?

Second noise is a high pitched metalic "ringing" noise coming from the engine bay when accelerating. Happens between 1-60kmph and is RPM specific, always between roughly 1500-2000 rpm. The noise almost sounds like a wind chime. It happens on both cold start and when the engine has heated up. I've run 91 octane with no improvement. I have checked all heat shields and they are tight and secure. It is noticeable in person but does not pick up on recording very well. Today was the first time I was able to capture it on video, the noise is faint, may need to turn up volume:

Anyone else have this? Ever figure out what causes it?

My experience with the dealer previously has been any "noise" related inquiries get the "could not duplicate" or "tech could not hear noise" response.

It's got pretty cold where i'm at. Are you sure the engine has the correct weight oil?

Oil change was done by the dealership in September. I'm looking at the service form now, says they used Synthetic 0w20 which is supposedly correct for the newer Tacomas.

My truck sounds like it has a slight knock when the AT shifts from 2nd to 3rd at low RPS on inclines. Is that the "ringing noise?"

Use Mobil1 fs 0w-20, do it yourself. Do 6 quarts instead of 6.1 or. 2. And lastly, only use top tier (or the equivalent in ur area) gas at 93 oct. Then get back to me.
