I bought my 2018 Tacoma in 2020 and the GPS maps was showing on the screen (working) at the time. About 6 months later it quit working. The audio GPS on my phone came through the speakers but no longer the visual maps on the screen. I took it to the Toyota dealer and they inspected it and said there was never a GPS installed on the truck! Two different mechanics there looked and agreed. What?? Did I imagine I was seeing MAPS on the screen for 6 months!? If anyone can answer this question I would appreciate it…I want my maps back!

I would think they would run the VIN and be able to see what options it was equipped with.
You are not missing anything, the factory navigation is nowhere near as good as the current phone offerings.

Thanks for responding. But when the gps plays on the phone, I get no visual on the screen. It seems the screen is good for nothing but the backup camera and radio station info. Doesn’t this seem odd that I used to have GPS Video on the screen? Must have been a free trial the original owner had on the new truck, similar to Sirius free trials on new vehicles…dunno…a mystery that no one can figure out.

this can just be the audio streaming,,, like you would music.
I am not saying you don't have it,,, just that it sounds like you don't. Maybe run your VIN in Toyota's site and check what your truck was equipped with?
This is screenshot from mine that has it

Oh yeah, I see what you’re saying. I’ll go to the dealer and ask them to check the vin. Thanks for your help.

You probably did this already. Check to see if you have the mini disk installed (lower right hand corner of screen). That disk contains all your map data etc.

Picture of your radio would help determine if you have the navigation version.
