My son and daughter were involved in a crash, on Friday, with an '07 Dodge 350 Crew Dually. All three walked away, sore and shaken, but without any major injuries. I pulled up less than a minute after the accident and, as a parent, my heart stopped until I saw them both upright and walking around on their own.

I am amazed at how the Tacoma front end absorbed the impact, of breaking the rear dually axle and dislocating the drive shaft, but not one airbag deployed in the Tacoma!

We are awaiting the adjusters report, to see what direction we'll need to go, but I'm so thankful all walked away!

Glad they are ok ! That is insane that the airbags did not go off !!! This needs to be investigated by Toyota and whoever controls the crash testing saftety laws . How big of a hit is needed to make the airbags deploy for goodness sake .

Taco16LB, I'm not sure why they didn't deploy, but from having worked wrecks, as a medic years ago, sometimes the older bags left fairly severe facial abrasions from the rapid impact to the head areas on minor fender benders where there wasn't much vehicle damage and were at low rates of speed.

That said, the seat belts DEFINITELY did their jobs, restraining both of my kids and for that, I am eternally grateful!!

wow, OP.. as a parent my heart would have stopped as well.

here's one example why i won't do a CMC on a truck that sees other on-road drivers.

My son’s accident was very similar and airbags didn’t go off in Silverado. Guess it has to be certain speed and location but you would think any front end crash would cause them to engage. It certainly looks bad enough to have engaged them.

I can adjust that for you. Looks totaled to me. Start looking for a replacement.

Glad everyone was OK--looks like the airbags would have deployed, but thank goodness the occupants were protected.

Glad everyone walked away relatively unscathed.

Tough to tell from pics, but I'd guess that's a gonner with almost certain engine and frame damage...

Newer airbag systems don't just fire off with any hit these days. There are many parameters that have to be met. It's not a defect.

Remember...the occupants were not severely injured. Therefore the truck's safety systems did exactly what they were supposed to do.

Unnecessary airbag deployment can actually cause additional injury under certain circumstances.

People need to chill out with the, "Toyota needs to be investigated" nonsense

Glad everyone involved is ok, maybe the driver side front wheel and the outer rear wheel of the Dodge took the majority of force, and that's why their was no airbag deployment. I doubt if it would take much force to crush the front passenger side as pictured.

The SRS front airbags will deploy in the event of an impact that exceeds the
set threshold level (the level of force corresponding to an approximately
    12 - 18 mph [20 - 30 km/h] frontal collision with a fixed wall that does not
    move or deform).
However, this threshold velocity will be considerably higher in the following
    situations:
    • If the vehicle strikes an object, such as a parked vehicle or sign pole, which
can move or deform on impact
    • If the vehicle is involved in an underride collision, such as a collision in
which the front of the vehicle “underrides”, or goes under, the bed of a truck
