I just got off the phone with the tech @ the dealership,The tacoma started off throwing a code P11EE,Took the truck in and they cleared the code said nothing wrong bad gas ETC.=Wrong on their part,Long story short it came back a day and a half later.Took it back again and they said they called toyota,Toyota said start a file on it and do a leak down check.we all know what that means, Bad JUJU.Well they did a leak down check and there was NO compression on Cyl 3. No water loss, just lack of compression. The tech told me he could blow air from Cyl 3 to Cyl 1 but not the other way around. They are now going to pull the motor so they can do a repair on it.I.E. replace the head or Block or what ever they find.It will be a day or two before they know exactly what the problem is.Just posting this to make this available to anyone coming up with this problem.Ill keep the info coming as it develops.40,000 miles on the truck, I am not happy, And thinking about trading it in or ask for a extended warranty on the engine.

You are not the first one. You are the 3rd one I've seen just on this forum. I bet it's valve(s) like the last 2 guys.

That sucks but enjoy the rental and don't worry, sure the problem and fix will be logged correctly. Should something happen out of warranty and it seems tied to this, they would probably work with you, especially if you do most work with this dealer.

I don't know about anyone else, but i'm going to end up buying the aluminum warranty till 125k or 10 years. I think the years will run out on my base warranty before the miles

That's just what we know of. I bet we could put two more digits on that because the only thing Pam and Sandra know is that the dummy light came on and they're in a rental. Sienna and Highlander life

We really won't know what the real failure is. I don't think the last guy chimed in what happened when they took the head off.

    Burned valve

    Dropped seat

    Broken valve spring

    Holed piston

    Cracked rings

I expect this to be a one hit wonder and we'll never hear anything else

Having owned a wrx and sti, I know what forum chatter looks like when engines routinely start popping and that is for cars that sell a fraction of units that Tacoma do per year. 3 cases is an insignificant anomaly.

I am going to VISIT the dealership on Monday.I live 35 miles away in a very small town.I have to lay eyes on this and see for myself what is going on.I have been wrenching all my life and spent the last 8 years as a farm mechanic I am familiar with internal engine problems and I will let all of you know what the heck is going on.We have owned Toyotas since 1980,This is the first engine problem we have ever had.we have owned 1980 4 Cyl pickup,1990 Four Runner,07 FJ cruiser,( totaled by a Mouse) And now this 2018. I am still driving a 97 Tacoma with almost 300,000 miles on it and it runs like a top.The reason I posted this is so if someone(like me) is having a problem with this code there will be a starting point for them to discuss with the dealer if they do a search. The Tech told me 0 compression on #3 but yet the truck ran great smooth idle and had no drivability issues. So yeah I will be talking to him about that one, Makes no sense to me .

This is reminding me of the 2005-early 2006s. You’d believe a blowing a head gasket was inevitable by reading TW. When in reality it’s very rare.

Same can be said about the older V6 from the pre-Tacoma’s. I guess it’s the 3rd gen’s turn.
