Had my Tacoma for 8 weeks and already multiple chips from tiny road debris. One MAJOR chip with a 1/2 inch lateral crack that I’m havig to repair. What’s going on??? My dads El Camino is 30 years old and not one chip in the windshield!!!

Do some searching if you wish, but it's a very common complaint.

    The 'why' is unknown.

I've replaced 2 windshields in 18 months of ownership. Which is exactly twice the number of windshields I've had to replace in the last 22 years before the Tacoma. Why? No clue. Likely a combination of the very brittle "acoustic" glass they used which is also perhaps lighter (IDK) to help with MPGs. I know when the glass company has replaced my windshields both installers have commented on how ridiculously tight the Toyota glass seats vs. other automakers. Also doesn't help that our boxy trucks, while they look badass, basically act like a fly swatter to road debris and bugs. I hear Ridgelines are more aerodynamic :) ...but they look like a grocery getter so I'll deal w/ the deductible to replace the occasional windshield!

I've replace my windshield 3 TIMES in the past 8 months. I really think the OEM glass is more brittle than the average windshield.

CAUTION: After market windshield may let in more "outside/wind noise" due to not having an "acoustic inner layer". (OEM glass includes feature)

I replaced 5 windshields in my 2011 taco in less than 5 years of ownership not
    including multiple small crack//chip repairs.

My 2016 has multiple chips and one larger one I had repaired.

The windshield is about 20 degrees steeper than the average vehicle. Any rocks thrown up into it are going to hit at a bad angle. That's what's causing all the complaints.

That and the fact that this forum is an echo chamber...
