I like to do things properly as well. Looks like the longer cable helps hide it better whereas other swap videos I've seen you can see the cable behind the TOYOTA because you basically have to have it go straight up from the sensor. Looking forward to your video.

Edit: What are the extra washers for too? Assume you'll go over that in your video?

I am combing the threads on this subject trying to figure out how I am going to tackle this install. The argument for the harness upgrade always seems to rest on the concept of doing it proper and hiding the cables. However, just my thought this current 30 seconds in time (I am going back and forth) is that the stock OR grill looks like crap wiring management wise from the factory. Look through the stock grill and it can’t possibly look worse with less to see through.D75E8AF1-9C6D-4AB4-BA5F-080FE1987510.jpg1D88429C-E264-4B06-8ACA-5DBD1A4A13E6.jpg

I dont feel the need for a longer cable either.

It is almost impossible to see the cable unless the hood is open and sun is shining down. Otherwise you really have to look into the grille, and at that point you see everything else in there.

So, sorry if I missed it, but does the Pro grille mess with the TSS? And why do we like it better aesthetically? Seems like the badge is more subtle.

I didn’t necessarily like it better, but then two things happened: 1) I saw it on other ORs, and 2) I found out that Toyota was playing games with allowing me to order it. It became a mission to get it and here I am now.

    Another stupid question..
Can I use the 18 pro grille on my 2016? It's
    like... cheaper.

Reading posts on this forum makes it difficult to avoid mods! I said I wouldn’t switch to the TRD Pro grille on my ‘18 Tacoma to avoid any possible TSS issues, but many have made the switch without issues.

I've ordered from them many times over the years for my Tundra, 4R, and Tacoma...they're based out of SoCal.

It was only $16 to have the grill and varnish sent to me all the way in Virginia. All Toyota OEM material stamped with the right stuff. I had a bent tab and they offered to replace it at their cost but it was actually bent in a favorable direction.

This is my first post here on TW. Just got a 2018 TRD OR inferno. I know some people hate the color, but I loved it when I saw it. Ordered a supposedly genuine OEM Pro grille from a guy on Amazon, and it came labeled from a dealership. It must be the old model, though, because there's no slots for the tabs on the garnish. I know the TSS will work without the garnish, but I'm a bit reluctant to let the radar module get smacked by rain and bugs and such. I pretty mad that I spent the time to take apart the factory grille and put the new one in just to realize it won't work. I should've checked before putting it in. I've reached out to him requesting a refund. In the mean time, just ordered the PT228-35180 from toyotapartsdeal.com after reading this thread, and I hope they actually are able to send it. All the dealership websites say you have to provide a VIN # for a TRD Pro truck before they will sell it. Anyway, just wanted to say "Thanks!" Attached a photo of the grille I got with no slots.

I got a cheap Chinese Pro Grill and it was the same thing as yours. I ended up just cutting off the lower tabs on the garnish, enlarging the upper holes on the grill and then using the washers on the upper posts and industrial velcro on the lower part of the garnish. Worked for me. Others are taking a Dremel and cutting out slots for the garnish tabs. It was easier than me trying to ship it back or ordering a second grill.

I thought about doing the dremel bit, but figured it was worth a shot to try to get the real thing from a reputable parts store. Unfortunately, toyotapartsdeal.com just emailed me this AM asking for a VIN from a TRD Pro. I called and dude said, "Toyota won't release the part unless you give us a VIN #," so I canceled my order. Really unfortunate. If anyone knows where I can get the real deal 2018 pro grille, let me know!

When I bought mine from a different 3rd party parts site they asked for a VIN as well. I found one for a used 2018 Pro on cars.com. They released it with that VIN. I ordered the garnish at the same time.

Installed it on my 18 with the factory 18 harness (short harness) and I have had no issues or errors.
