I was at a Toyota meeting recently and it was disclosed that every 2018 vehicle produced outside of the 4Runner and the 86 will have Toyota's Safety Sense-P or C package on it (C for the smaller compact cars.) That encompasses dynamic radar cruise control, the pre-collision system, auto high beams, and lane departure alert.

I am uncertain if they will do this across all trims like the off road or pro however I cannot see them excluding it if it comes standard on a $17k Corolla.

Outside of it being more annoying to modify with certain bumper and grill parts having to change curious to see how this changes the Tacoma and if its worth making the upgrade. For me its hard to pass on safety features when 75% of my time is spent in an urban and congested setting.

I was told opinions were like assholes and every one has one, so I'm dying to know what current owners think of the new features.

Being a 16' owner I'm still bitter I missed out on the power slider :-/

Just more wires we are going to have to cut and ground under the hood for the off road guys..

For soccer mom with a truck full of kids while she is on her phone to the dentist she is humping while putting on her makeup. It's fantastic.

Isn't that what most modern technology is in the vehicle? ECU, TCU, abs, Vsc, safety sense, hell even seat belt gong just to name a few. The days of throttle cables and straight 40 weight oil are slowly fading away

Back when cars had thin roof pillars, larger windows and smaller headrests, the visibility was so much better you didn't NEED all this extra sensing BS.

Especially SUV's. Drive a 2017 Suburban and then a 1987 Suburban. You can see EVERYTHING!

The modern safety features protect you more once you have already wrecked. Better visibility and fewer distractions will help keep you from wrecking in the first place.

Gave up riding myself after an f150 crossed a double yellow on me and caused me to make a split decision to hit the ditch rather than the front of a truck. Layed down my triumph and messed my left foot up a little. Haven't rode since, that was 4 years ago. I couldn't count all the close calls from idiots not paying attention. I like riding but for me it just isn't worth it anymore.
Maybe if I move way out in the sticks. Sad but true

    Brand spanking new...
I recently bought a car that has all these features - here's my observations on them:

Lane Assist - this can be nice for when you do need to take your hands off for a second (unscrew the top on a water bottle, scratch your ass, whatever). The times it's annoying is on/off ramps where the lines pull away from the standard flow of traffic, the vehicle will have a tendency to want to follow that line so either pull you off the road, or push you away from where you're trying to go. Super annoying. I only enable it during long highway hauls, and immediately turn it off elsewhere.

Radar Cruise Control - This can be nice for the commuter traffic pace (slowdown / speed up), it saves from having to cancel/resume constantly if you use cruise in any form of traffic. My issue is with in my car it's ONLY radar cruise, I don't have a traditional cruise at all. So when I'm cruising down the highway and ever so slowly coming up on someone, it will detect and then just slow down and match their speed when really I wanted it to stay the same speed, and smoothly pass them. Instead I have to either actively accelerate at the point it starts slowing (if I notice), or pass long before I get anywhere near the other person.

Auto-High Beam - I actually love this, and haven't come across a single instance where this isn't a good thing. It turns off super quick when an oncoming vehicle approaches or if someone is in front of me. It can be finicky in any urban setting, street lights, or a bright reflection can trigger the high beam to turn off, but all around. I love this. I've programmed my car so these are on all the time (i.e. if its dark out, auto-high beam is on so I always get a good high beam when away from lights.

Pre-Collision System - I've only had this active twice on me, once was legit, where highway traffic suddenly came to a stop. Bells alarmed, dash flashed warnings, etc. I was already breaking and presumed I would have stopped in time, not sure how much, if any, it braked for me. The other time was a false-alarm - vehicle was turning out of my lane as I continued my speed and simply passed around them (wide lane). No real danger to anyone but the car freaked out anyways.

Just thought I'd give my experience on these systems for anyone who hasn't been in a vehicle with them. Some are good (auto-high beam), some are annoying (Lane Assist). All I know is this will make the already astronomical price of these trucks go even higher..
