I have had no problems with starting, also have nearly new battery. I started the truck to move it from the driveway to the street. Shut it off, walked away and decided to move it to a different place, got back in and it wouldn’t start. Motor turns over normally but won’t start, its like it is out of gas but it has a half tank. My question, is there anything with the security system that would cause it not to start? Is there a reset.

On the 2nd Gen trucks. Yes.
If the security light does NOT stop flashing with key in the ignition, it will not start.
It will crank, but not start.

What does the security light do with key in ignition?
    Does it go off?

Are you smelling gas. There is a fuel pump recall. Your 2018 is cover for 10 years regardless of mileage.

Also, check the crankshaft position sensor. Early 3rd Gens has bad sensors.

Believe it or not, we are having a snow storm here in sunny, balmy, Pensacola Fl so I’m not going out to try anything tonight. I’ll try tomorrow.

My fuel pump has been replaces several years ago due to the recall. As far as gas smell, no.

Have you found a fix? Mine has been doing something similar. I’ll drive to work, no problem. Leave work, no problem. Take it to my folks house and an hour and a half of being there, it’ll crank but no start AT FIRST. Then give it another try and it’ll start right up! So weird. Usually happens after driving for a bit and when I get back in, it happens. Right when I try to show someone what it does, it starts right up! She’s a moody one! When it starts, she runs perfectly, no cel or rough idling or stalling. Any kind of info helps!

Also in confused weather Pensacola Fl!

After the snow I tried it again, it started and haven’t had a problem with it since. I have no idea what the problem was.

Is the fuel pump recall for the V6 or the 2.7 (or both)? I’ve got a 2018 2.7, no issues so far, but it would be good to know.

This sounds similar to an issue that I had on my 2010 Forester. Every now and then I would go to start it, turn the ignition and it would crank for about five or six seconds before taking a rest. I would try to start it again, it would crank fine, but no start. I’d walk away for 20 minutes, come back to it, and it would start right up. It wouldn’t run rough nor would it throw any codes. Replaced the starter and battery, but to no avail; trusted, and reputable mechanic couldn’t quite figure it out until the day that it died when he was pulling it into the shop.

Ended up being the crankshaft or camshaft position sensor. Replaced both of those, and never had the issue again.

Edited to add that the Subaru would go days, weeks, or a month or more without the starting issue. So it was very intermittent.

    Everything.
    Intermittent ground cable/wire maybe?

Check battery connections. Check main engine ground to chassis.

Lazy/intermittent crank position sensor as stated sounds decently likely as well, Ive seen that happen. If the crank pulley isn't tight, it can back off the crank position sprocket and the sensor wont read correctly as well(more far fetched issue)

Also, there is an anti drain-back check valve in the fuel pump, those sometimes get stuck shut and wont allow fuel flow.

I have a family friend that primarily works on Toyotas and he recommends the crankshaft position sensor may be the issue. Also saw an older thread in which the injectors needed replacing. I bought the taco used 94k miles bout a month ago and it just started happening. Thank you for the advice! I’ll check that ground first thing in the morning!
