Yeah, the 2004 really IS a stinker. Not like our bygone Rangers that smell like nostalgia through them polaroids, eh, brother?

My first Taco was this 2018, I'm new to Tacos and been wanting one for years. Took a little time to get use to everything like shift points for the Trans, but over all I think this truck is Kick A$$. Small minor changes that I would make but nothing to complain about.

Can’t say if it’s the worst model year because it’s my first Tacoma but I have no complaints about my 2018 Off Road. I daily drive it and tow a 3200# camper with it. The Aisin transmission appears to be bullet-proof, just needed different programming provided by @OVTune.

Can’t comment on reliability until probably 2028 but so far, so good. :D

My 2019 has been good. I think 3 years in was enough to get the bugs worked out.

I think the article is over exaggerating the Tacoma “issues” but I must admit 40,000 miles in and I’m disappointed. I doubt I’ll ever buy a Tacoma again. I’ve definitely convinced people not to buy them because of my disappointing experience. I just hope it’s reliable for 8 more years. It’s sad because the Tacoma could easily be freaking awesome if Toyota put in a little more effort.

My ‘18 OR has been flawless so far (25k miles). Does have the fuel pump recall, but nothing I’ve noticed regarding actual issues. Yes, the trans has janky shift points, but it’s a solid, reliable, damned good looking, truck.

I now have 60k on my 18 trd 6mt. My only complaint is the ac. Does not blow very cold air.
Other than that, yes i would like to have the power of a full size with the mpg of a civic but that's not going to happen.

This is my second 3rd gen Taco. My first was a 2018 and had NO issues at all and VERY reliable. Now I have a 2020 and the only difference between the two is that Toyota tuned differently the 2020 models, so the responsiveness is better and no gear hunt in my opinion. I never complained with the gear hunt as Toyota made it that way due to fuel efficiency.
Both trucks are great and I expect no less with my 2020 in which I LOVE!
