Thanks for the suggestions. I mentioned earlier that my wife's current truck is a 2015 TRD Off Road. Prior to that she had a a 2011 TRD sport. She lets me drive them when we go into town together. We have also taken long trips in both trucks so I sort of know how they are different. Her 2011 and 2015 are automatics. Her previous Tacomas were stick shift SR5's. Yep, she drinks Toyota Kool-Aid. My Toyota dealer is located on the edge of town so I can get in all kinds of driving without much of a hassle.

The 3rd Gen feels totally different than the 2nd Gens you drove, make sure you get an extended or overnight test drive

I will say.. I have a 17 ram rebel and a 18 trd OR DCSB. The 18 handles washboard a lot better than the rebel on air shocks (and the old 14 bighorn for that matter) with that said... good luck replacing the hemi get up and go and passing power... you won't...

It's not grossly underpowered, but if ur used to a higher HP vehicle you will have to adjust your expectations.

That’s surprising to hear with the springs out back in the Rebel. I heard they offer great ride quality. I actually wish Tacoma came with coils instead. With its paltry payload, coils would handle the weight just fine.

Doesn’t need a V8. Heavier and would take away from its nimbleness. The V6 handles it just fine.

Was it a total of almost 400,000 3rd gen Tacomas built for 2016 and 2017? It’ll soon be one half million.

How many complaints on Tacoma World? I don’t know.

After my 80 mile test drive, I am pretty much OK with the performance of the 2018 Tacoma that I drove. It had only six miles on the odometer when I left the dealer's lot. I drove in town, two-lane highways, four lane highways, and some gravel roads. Flat country as well as hills. While it shifted quite a bit in hilly country, it was not all that bad. Above 3500 rpm's it a real "runner". I drove in Drive, S, and ECT. The ride of the Off Road is definitely what I am looking for. I may try a Colorado Z71 just for the heck of it, but I am pretty sure that I'll be buying a new Tacoma. I am an"old guy"...pre 60's and 70's "muscle cars" and along the way had several very high powered "toys". The Tacoma doesn't fall into this class but it is very much OK. By the way, I knew more about the Tacoma than the salesman.

Good for you on taking a proper test drive. Have fun with it!
As far as knowing more about the Tacoma than the salesman, that's good. But do you know more than him about the Yaris, 86, Corolla, Prius, Camry, RAV4, Tundra, Highlander, Land Cruiser, Sequoia AND the Tacoma? Lol good luck man.

Nice. I would definitely check out the Z71, if nothing than to say you’ve driven one. I hear they’re nice. Nice engines. But I think typical GM interior build. Tacoma is nothing to write home about but GM’s I’ve been in are pretty terrible. Suburbans and full-size trucks aren’t that bad though.

I will say, the seats are much more comfortable in the Colorado.

yep. i have a 16. the diesel z71 is nice. If i was to get another it would be the zr2. drove them and they are nicer than the z71. With discounts can be bought for same price as u will pay for loaded off road with prem and tech at least in the gas model. Interior is spot on. Tacoma is much better interior looks and material to me. Seat comfort is the biggest problem in my opinion with the tacoma. I am planning going tacoma and adding foam to the seats and heard that makes big difference and i am banking on that. My Colorado has 54k on it and as far as ride and issues been very good truck. I did add leather first day. With Tacoma u get push button start and all the other stuff like blind spot and so on and chevy nothing. Chevy back seats are more room but i prefer the tacoma for i dont haul more than 2 ever anyway. If you try the Colorado try the zr2. Much better handling and ride

I have seat covers on mine. Before I put them on, I cut out some memory foam to fit under it (I think 3/4" or 1"), and that has improved the comfort level quite a bit.

I'd rather not think of all the $ spent :(
I did this (switched from a 2500 Ram to the Tacoma) I liked my Ram and missed the power at first, but I love this Tacoma. I did an extended test drive before I "ordered" mine. Best of luck to you either way.
