The whole powertrain, much of the interior, and supposedly the platform are mainly BMW based. I’ll agree that most people buying 50k cars are buying luxury brands, but there’s a market for this even if it is smaller.

Have you drive a 4 and 5 second car? It’s not the same difference as there is between a 7 and 8 second vehicle. It feels like a major difference.

But let’s take the Benz CLA45 AMG, a 4 banger that matches this supras 4.1 0-60. That car is 53k, and I’d much rather have the smoothness and better sound from a 6 cylinder for the same price.

I’m just trying to disprove the fallacy that turbo 4s with that performance exist at “a fraction of the price”

They said its 335 brake hp, not crank, so 350ish crank hp? Still lower than I expected. EcoBoost mustang matches that all be it heavier.
Does the high end model get more? Or just a body kit and bells and whistles?

I think the focus for this car is handling and braking .. they put a lot of emphasis on balance and weight distribution, it's designed to power slide gracefully around a track environment, not for quarter mile drag racing.

The most fun cars I've owned didn't have big power, but delivered on the driving experience. Old VW 2.0L with 135 HP and Miatas, cars you can toss around, pick a perfect line and heel and toe shift.

It's underrated for sure. Some are guessing 370-380hp at the crank. We'll know for sure when someone dynos one.

In the mean time, more pics.

Did I hear correctly that the motor will be a straight six turbo?

I'm not up to date on any of this. Is it just a BMW with funky styling and a Toyota badge?

This. Engine is behind front axle center line and the wheelbase is short. No useless backseats, either. Well, except the heel and toe shifting, as the tranny will blip the throttle for you. Should be a fun sports car while under warranty.

Not the same segment. People who buy this think Camaro/Mustang/Challenger are barbaric heathens.

On the other hand, the Supra used to compete with the Nissan Z, which now runs $30k-$47k depending on trim level, makes 332-350 hp, and is available with 6-speed manual...

Disappointingly so, imported from Austria with a 50 grand price tag, I don't see that thing selling well at all.
