Does anyone know if the factory nerf bars for the 2018 Tacoma TRD off road long bed double cab mount to the frame or the rocker panel?

I have a friend with a 2001 Tacoma and his factory bars mount to the frame. From what I've read on manufacturer websites, all nerf bars for the 2018 mount to the rocker panel. There were 3 or 4 companies that had no mounting directions.

Factory Nerf bars do not attach to the frame. There are some factory threaded mounting locations on the underside of the body.

I'm not aware of any nerf bars for 3rd gens that attach to the frame but there might be some aftermarket ones somewhere.

You can get aftermarket rock sliders that attach to the frame (bolt-on or weld) but some of the bolt on require drilling the frame and some do not.

OK, thank you for the reply. That certainly explains why every aftermarket nerf bar that I've found online uses a rocker panel mount. I guess the 2001 Tacoma uses a different system than the generation 3.
