Hi guys. I have had the truck for only 10 months and have brought in a local Toyota dealer for two times. First time was for the 6month/5000 checkup and the second time for the queaky noise as i drive over bumpers/pit holes. They did fix the noise. It was the misaligned bushing between the frame and the body of the truck.

Now, a few weeks passed and I happen to craw under to find if theres any zerks to add lubricant, i notice sign of oil leakage right underneath the engine. Btw, I dont think oil change service has been done on the truck. I have not done it neither.

My question is, is the leakage typical at such low milage or is it a bad job they have done?

That shouldn’t be normal on any new vehicle. If they did your oil change it could simply be they didn’t clean up after themselves which a lot of the time is the case. I would recommend cleaning off the oil you can see with brake cleaner and see if it keeps leaking. If it’s like dripping on your driveway I would take it back in and make them fix it. They might have changed your oil and filter and not replaced the oil filter housing oring which is usually a one time use.

It could be the leaking timing chain cover... they are known here to go bad and they leak. A lot. They are also a big job to fix.

How much oil is leaking, and where from on the engine is it coming from?

Depending on where the leak is, possibly near the power steering pump, it’s most likely a timing chain cover leak. Happened to mine and is very common among these trucks. As someone said already, it is a large job.

Oh yeah, Subarus customer service is extraordinary. My wife had a really annoying rattle on her (new at the time) '15 Forester and after 5 dealer attempts to fix it, Subaru replaced the car for her AND sent her a bose speaker as a courtesy gift.

    They are a great company.

I have never owned a Subaru, but I know they are great cars and good service. Their horizontal Boxer engine is legendary and mimics the Porsche engine, smooth as silk. If I didn't buy Toyota, I would buy a Subaru.

The front timing chain cover leaks are definitely a Toyota thing....across the entire line up where the 3.5L engines are used. Nothing specific to the FKS engine either. You better catch that leak under warranty. For many FWD configs, it is an out of vehicle fix (drop the engine cradle).

The new CVTs aren’t all that reliable and are required to be replaced at the tune of $7-10k. Mine went out at 18k miles and a buddy’s went out on his Impreza at 42k. Not worth it if you plan to keep it longer than say 3 years. And the only boxer that is remotely smooth is the 6 cylinder they’re getting rid of. But all in all, they don’t stand by their new transmissions and lay the burden on the customer.

I don’t have pictures of the leak itself, those can be found all throughout this forum. Drips off the bottom of the power steering pump. And it was serviced at a dealership in SW Florida.

No. Not normal. It's under warranty, take it to the dealer.
