For the last week it has been in the mid 70s to mid 80s. I ran the air conditioner on the way home from work and it worked fine. Or so I thought. Today it was low 90s and the air was WAY colder with the same settings. It even froze my hand on the steering wheel. Does the Toyota AirCon do something different based on the outside ambient temps?? Maybe my truck fan kicked in?? Seriously, the difference was extreme.....to the good side!! Thoughts??

AC works on the differential between ambient and desired lower temp......the hotter is it out, the lower the system can make the output temperature with the same amount of work.

It's kind of like the law of diminishing returns.....

I don't think it's a Toyota specific thing, just nature of the process

I'm uh... very much wondering if you had it set to a target temperature rather than "max cool." The number on the dial for the A/C is the cabin temp target, not the temp out of the vents.

FWIW, most A/C systems can do a delta of about twenty degrees F in the normal operating range (figure 50F to 110F)
