2018 TRD PRO Grille w/ TSS-P Radar Info/DIY

yes, it came with the grille.

 

I just bought one and I can’t the raptor lights to work you have any issues with wiring harness or anything?

 

I'm not sure if this the right place to pst this question, but has anyone modified a early TRD Pro Grill to accept the garnish?
I just traded my 2017 SR5 with a aftermarket grill. I kept TRD grill and reinstalled the original SR5 grill. Brought home the new truck and began to take off the new SR5 so i could reinstall my TRD Pro grill...and then...I discovered the the TSS. That sucks.
So now I have to decide whether I'm going to live with the SR5 Grill, buy a new one, dis-gard the TSS system, le the old grillor Modify ithe old one.

Thanks Clay7160, This looks like what I need. if you know does this product has any issues with reliability, or difficulty with installation. I assume it comes with mounting instructions.

Newbie here. I have a '21 with non oem pro grill. The garnish I got from Amazon was scratched so it got returned. I went ahead and just did the license plate cut out for now. Right off the bat I got the "clean radar" error. I tried adding washers on the top screw in increments and it helped, I was able to drive farther but the light eventually came back on. So then I thought maybe I need to bring the senor back, maybe it sits too close to the garnish, I started adding washers to all 3 mounting points. I ended up with 2 washers on the sides and a bunch on the top screw (just enough to fill the gap). I drove about 6 miles and the light came on. It stayed on for about a mile then turned itself off.. not sure if it autocorrected or it just needed to "relearn." Hopefully it stays off

 

I didn't scroll all the way through the previous 80+ pages for this, but I have a cheap solution for those that don't want the shiny glass sensor front on the otherwise matte grill. I just used the insert that came with my aftermarket grille.

- A single laminated sleeve for printer paper.

• Run it through the laminating device to heat/clear it, and cut to fit the "window" in front of the TSS.
• JB weld for plastic or RTV silicone should hold it, and you can add some silicone above the sensor to decrease the water run down in downpours.

Been running mine that way for months now. Grill looks consistent, sensor (braking and cruise) works fine 99.8% of the time. Only has 1 "clean sensor" error and it was in a torrential downpour. Cleared after rain decreased.

Realize I'm jumping in on page 80 (read the beginning and the end a bit), but I have an MC Auto grill and garnish, and noticed that after it was installed, it isn't flush with the grill all around (the garnish). The top is back about 1/8" and the bottom is flush, so it effectively is pointed up slightly.

Drove about 4 hours last week in dry weather and had zero issues. Used radar cruise for much of the trip.

Yesterday, I repeated that drive but it was during rain/sleet/snow and tons of salt trucks loading up the road with salt up in front of me. Unfortunately, I had the Clean Sensor or Radar Cruise disabled messages pop up about 6-8 times on that ride. I understand the salt and sleet slop can probably coat the garnish, but come on, that seems ridiculous to have a system that is so easily impacted by weather that isn't absurd.

Wondering if it wasn't a combination of the weather/salt and also how my garnish/tss is tilted up a bit. Curious to try the washer solution that others have mentioned on here. But, it got me thinking as I was staring at them on my workbench...has anyone used or had luck with black neoprene washers? Thinking maybe it would be a good alternative to stainless steel, and give a little more cushion when tightening it back down?

wanted to check and see if what I think should happen will happen,,,
I recently swapped my 2019 TRD Sport grille with an after market Pro grille. The day I finished it I drove it and the TSS error came on and then when I shut down the eng it went off until about 5 mi into the next drive. It did this about 3-4 more times and then I went to see my bro about 100 miles away, it came on again. but when I left to come home a few hours later it never came back on and didn't come back on for a couple weeks so I figured the computer re booted finally and all was good. But then yesterday it came back on again, about 3 times. any ideas? It is an after market grille. D-know

 

I got a Chinese knockoff from Madhornets.com, came with the grille but they sold it separate also.

 

I know the solution to aftermarket Pro grills interfacing with the TSS has been commented on to death. I installed the Pro grill from Taco Garage along with the garnish molding they supply. Since I need to establish a baseline, I started off with no spacer on the top of the TSS and six miles later the light came on. I kept adding washers until the sensor was aimed properly and the error light stayed off. The magic height for the stack on my truck was 3.2MM on my particular grill/molding set up. My truck was otherwise completely stock as far as tires and ride height. I know that others with different aftermarket grill and garnish moldings have been able to get by with as little as zero washers, but I believe that it is going to be different for everyone depending on lift height, tire size or brand of aftermarket grill.

I suggest that you continue to experiment with the sensor angle, sooner or later you should be able to find the correct spot.

 

With the new grille there is only one point to secure the sensor. The original grille had 3. I do find that with one bolt holding the sensor it is not real secure. Scared to tighten it too much for fear of stripping it out, since it is plastic. So maybe that could be the issue, if it was to vibrate a bit and go off center it could show an error?

 

The error I get on my TSS is the idiot light that says the TSS is off. When I start the engine it is off but tends to come back on after 5-10 miles. Shut down and start up it is off and again after a few miles comes back on.
