I know there are a couple of thread going on the subject with one being over 100 pages long. It took me several hours to sort this out and figure out what I actually needed. There is a lot of good information out there, but trying to sort out the difference between the 16/17 vs the 18 with the sensor is a touch confusing and not to mention a "Garnish" that really isn't a garnish, made you put a little more thought. For anyone else starting to look into this here is a tip. Don't think of garnish in the parsley sense. This garnish is a piece that sits in the middle of the grille.

Had to make the decision on going with the ebay Chinese version or the OEM version (which is likely made in China). After a lot of searching and price shopping decided on the OEM. The rationale was that it wasn't that much more and I still had to buy the garnish.

    Parts -
    Here is what I bought:
    PT228-35180 - TRD Pro Grill Tacoma List - $259.02 Net $177.52
    53141- 35060 - Garnish, Radiator Grill List $68.21 Net 48.80
    Shipping - $26.28
    Total $252.60

Parts were purchased online from Toyota of McDonough in McDonough Ga. They had the lowest combined price. I don't live in GA so I didn't have to pay tax. Being in Fla kept shipping prices down. One thing I did find is shipping prices were all over the place. The grille is light but they price by box dimensions and I think some of these guys are marking up shipping. Your results may vary.

In a rehash of information already posted here. There are two different OEM grilles. One for the 16/17 which is outrageously priced and the PT228-35180. The difference is the mount for the cruise control radar and that you need to fill the hole for that mount with the 'Garnish'. Combined you are still less than the 16/17 OEM grille so if you wanted to go that route you could.

    Install -
The install is pretty straight forward. The youtube video for the 16/17 grille is fine https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4H80y5x1L38. You just need to be aware of disconnecting the connectors. You squeeze the top of the connector and pull. Remove the screws and clips to get the old one out. "you are good to go"

To install the garnish in the new grille it just snaps in. You will need two new star lock fasteners. I don't know if they are typically provided or I didn't order them, but found them at a hardware store. They look like this - http://www.bakfin.com/starlock/metric-roundshaft.html

The sensor is held in the existing grille with 3 screws. Once you take the sensor off, there are two nuts that slide out that you will reuse on the new grille. There is a hole for the 3rd screw. You will also need to remove the clips holding the wires in place. Once you install the two nuts, the sensor installs as it was removed.

The rest of the installation is the same as the video. Just be aware of the wire.

Interesting. I looked all over the grille to see a manufacture location. Makes me feel a little better about spending a few dollars more.

Agreed with other poster... Finally, a straightforward parts list, dealer location in the US, and confirmation that the garnish doesn't have to be tweaked for sensor protection. I'll probably pick mine up this fall since I still need to get the Taco first ( hopefully in a couple of months ).

Your darn right about that shipping. I found $80 for standard and $245 for expedited. LOL! They're crazy!

Most other dealerships do not seem to have any in stock, including the one linked above.

I have a 2018 and bought the $100 grill knockoff and used the OEM garnish with no issues. Radar works perfectly.

Oh also, you might try Toyota of Dallas if you are still looking for an OEM grill. I was in for 5,000 mike Toyotacare service last week and they had them for sale in the retail store.

I have the TRD Off Road and I'm looking for the OEM grill. Does anyone have a link where a TRD PRO VIN isn't required? I haven't been able to find one for an OEM grill...

    Thanks!
