If I remember correctly yes the battery is disconnected, then the airbag comes out, then that center nut but he marked it so when putting it back it's in the exact same position and you can see the clockspring and steering angle sensor. He then removed about 4 or 5 connectors on the clockspring then a couple clips and the assembly comes off. Then reinstalled everything and it worked. It's been about 3 months and the codes never came back. The lights were off instantly, didnt have to drive it for a certain amount of time.

From a 2nd gen video it looked like you could remove the plug on the angle sensor without needing to unplug the clock spring. Was the plugs on the clock spring necessary? I’ll have to look into what I’d need to “zero” calibrate- you mentioned in your previous post.

I may try it out if I can find the zero thing. I think it’s what I’ve seen mention of 2 terminals on the obd plug and touching 4 times but don’t pay much attention because the video ended up being about after a lift

He unplugged everything and plugged it back in, I Believe the angle sensor is attached to the clockspring but behind it.

Yes you can do the paper clip thing however my buddy has the computer that did it how the dealer would. Just make sure your steering wheel is straight and the vehicle is level.

I appreciate the tips. The vehicle being level is more for the calibration I’m assuming and not the actual steering wheel removal, I’ll have to find a secondary location then for that cause my driveway has the reverse taco lean

So before taking the steering wheel off I decided that I would check if I could access the plugs by taking the column plastics off (2 screws accessible by turning the wheel). I did see 3 plugs (2 for the clock spring, yellow and black and 1 white I’m sure was the angle). I disconnected the battery negative, unplugged those 3 connectors and waited a bit 10-15 mins. Reconnected the connectors and then battery negative. Error messages still appear, tried the reset and calibration via wired obd port (I do have those positions populated). I dont think it took after trying multiple times because I didn’t get any of the flashing sequences for slip or abs. Error messages still appear.

not sure if I should just buy a better/more functional reader or take it to the shop for diagnostic. If I knew for sure it’s a faulty angle sensor then I’d just buy the part and install myself but then I guess I’d have to take it in to get calibrated afterwards

Update- took the truck to a local shop, told them what happened and the likely diagnosis. Asked to try and reset/calibrate as suggested above but nothing took and diagnosis was confirmed. Was going to buy a aftermarket sensor but after reading a few post with others taking that route decided against. Started looking online for the cheapest I could find (315), then called my local dealer to confirm part number and check inventory. They had 1 in stock and they price match so headed up there and grabbed my part.

after replacing and putting everything back together the first start was immediately rewarding (I assumed messages would continue until taken to local shop to reset/calibration) because all error messages (stability, radar, headlights) were gone and dash lights (slip, radar, warning) were gone. I did notice when removing the old steering angle sensor that it was leaking (assuming something on the circuitry).
