    Hello all. I'm looking at a 2018 ex-cab with 81k. 2 owners. 3.5L.
Would love to hear the good, bad, and ugly from the source.
My 02 major restoration is constantly be side tracked due to work load.
    Price is just under 28k.
    Going to see it Tuesday.
    Anything I should know?????
    Thank you
    John

I had a handful of first year TSBs to address but after that no problems with 58K miles. I love the clam shell doors and wish Toyota kept it on the 4th Gen. The Sport does have a stiffer ride so take a test drive to see if it is too firm for you.

Check the timing chain cover and coolant crossover pipe for leaks. Mine are fine but that is something to check on a 3rd Gen.

@TA2016, thanks. Do these trucks have the auto dim headlight feature? If yes, can that be bypassed so I can be my own judge when the brightness is changed? Wife's car (Nissan) has them and I am not a fan of that option.

I am not sure about Auto Dimming headlights on a 2018. My 2016 has Auto on and off lights with the Premium Tech package and Auto Dimming was not available in 2016. Here is the 2016 Specs PDF you might find interesting. 2018 added a few more features but this PDF should be close to what you are looking at.

Thank you very much @TA2016. I did not know you could find that literature on line. But I do now. Thanks again

My 2018 Tacoma does have the auto dimming option..I use it sparingly, the worst part is it will dim going down the road and no traffic coming towards me. It hits the back of some road signs and dims. I do not have the automatic headlights. On/off automatically..

This. Just had my 2017 Sport in for carrier bearing replacement. My timing chain cover and coolant pipe were both found to be leaking, fortunately all covered under my extended warranty.

Thank you @VicNic3 and @dixiedog26. I did purchase the truck. Will post some pics when I get it. There is some minor surface rust issues on the cab underneath the truck. Very minor. Oh, I'm in the rust belt. I'm blessed to have a lift. Woolwax asap. My only other Tacoma is the 2002 2.7 4wd. I'm sure I'll be asking all kinds of noob questions. The more I know the more I can take care of issues myself. Yesterday I test drove the truck and did like the increase in power going to a v6. This will be yet another learning curve. I'll try to keep the stupid questions down to a dull roar.
Is there a process for carrier bearing inspection?

I can’t give you any insight on carrier bearing inspection but my symptom was a “whining” noise from initial acceleration until approx 10 mph. I’ve also had the ac evaporator replaced, my extended warranty has come in handy for sure. I have 85,xxx miles on my truck
