Anyone with a 2018 and TSS done a grill swap? Wondering if a 2017 pro grill on an 2018 will effect the radar cruise. Is the only thing on the TSS setup I value and don't want to lose. Can't find anywhere that does the 2018 grill in stock so looking at the 2017.

    Help appreciated.

You cook on a grill. Your truck has a grille.

I took pictures for you while waiting on my truck. This is the new PRO grille with TSS. So from my view I do not see how a 2017 PRO grille would work.

Quirks of the English language aside, someone on here said that the Pro has a different looking radar module but it might just be a protective cover. If you had to buy both the grille and the module I think you would have to sell a kidney to pay for it. I’m sure that in a few months someone will tackle this as well as the issue of lifting the 18’s. Good luck!

Thanks that is helpful. Looks like it has a small pad below the TOYOTA lettering where the TSS is. Guess I am waiting for availability of a 2018 Grille, with an e.

I have 2018 SR with the TSS and last week upgraded to the PRO grill from China. Perfect fit for the TSS sensor or whatever was in the original grill emblem. It was very easy to swap it to the PRO grill.

The issue is not swapping the grille. Any fool can do that in 20 minutes. But if you want to guarantee correct operation of the safety-related radar sensor, you will have to find a dealer who is willing to align the sensor for you. It requires tooling that isn't readily available and will probably represent a full hour of skilled labour.

It may not be easy to find a dealer who is willing to work with you on this. They would need to apply a setting to your vehicle's firmware, to tell it that the sensor is installed in the TRD Pro position. But your truck does not have the same suspension as a TRD Pro, and the transceiver will be at a different height, so there is not really a valid setting for the dealer to enter.

    Good luck.

I am working on this with my dealer now. It was escalated up to a tier 2, but not resolved.

I believe the actual grille will continue the same and have the same part number. what is needed is the piece in the pic above that looks like it has glass over it. From a post in another thread, it appears that the unit will calibrate itself, depending on which position it is in.

Snake. can you take a pic of the back of the glass area? Is the TSS just attached to the back of that glass piece which is then attached to the grille? It seems like that glass piece should be a whole separate part, just like the glass emblem on the non pro models.

Sorry I was only taking pictures of a dealer car. I was looking at the PROs while I was getting my service.

Haha in the mean time you can get a grill to cook with.

I just wonder how sensitive these sensors are and like others have stated if they just self calibrate.

You would think on a truck that since it's moving at different speeds and suspension is practically always changing that the sensor should be able to self calibrate if you lifted your truck up a couple of inches.

Think about when you slam on the breaks and how the nose of the truck dives down several inches or when your going up a steep hill with a load in your bed? I'm sure dealerships will tell you to take full precautions and have it professionally calibrated because of liability reasons, but who knows if you really need to or not.

Anyways would love to see a pic of the sensor as I'm looking to see if I can incorporate them into my grille design.

They absolutely do NOT self caliibrate
It requires an SST, techstream, and an extensive amount of technician input.
The height of the standard trucks is lower than the pro, and they have different wave radar sensor locations.

The aiming parameters for the pro are based off the location on the pro and the ones for the standard trucks is based off of that truck.
Any parameters for a standard truck with a pro grille will need to be developed and customized by the dealer..and then they will bear the liability for it.

I slapped the TSS module to the PRO grille and have absolutely no issues whatsoever. Everything works just fine like it was with the regular grille.

Not trying to be cheeky, but how do you know it works unless you are in an accident? Like, isn’t that the whole point of Toyota Safety Sense (with the adaptive cruise control feature being an add-on “because they can”)?

I’m waiting for the 1st 2018 driver with a Chinese grille swap to drive full speed at a concrete wall. Please post pics.
