Honda owners would easily prove that statement wrong.

Of course this is a minor thing in the grand scheme, however there are only two reasons I can think of why Toyota has such bad back up cam quality in the Tacoma compared to other vehicles:
Saving every last penny on building these - smart
Toyota Tacoma owners are huge fans of the truck and Toyota knows they don't have to give Tacoma the best of anything when it comes to equipment - also smart on their part.

    Drove a 2018 Sport for 3 years. Now own a 2021 OR. Premium/Tech
    Ride is softer
Transmission and pedal relationship is more responsive, shifting is much better. I hated my 2018 in this category.
Driver seat is much better and the electric positioning is great!
No hood scoop gives me several inches better view from my perspective.
Better multimedia screen and function and the radio knobs are grabable!!!
    LED package is great!

I have the LED package. It is very functional, as far as seeing when driving, and it looks great too when driving down the road.

I wouldn’t and my 18 has 45k on it. I am in It for the long haul, no payments and lots of smiles. There is always going to be something new, and it will always get more expensive. Think of all the better things you could do with 9500. Suspension, tires, seat covers, a Roth ira deposit.

I completely agree about the camera. My 2016's camera was great, I could see confidently. My new truck its extremely hard to tell whats going on. I do like the top down view and I am growing to trust it a little bit more.

All this talk about shitty camera resolution now has me questioning my eyesight. I back into my driveway every night and can read the small letters on my Acura RL and the plate from halfway up it.

Can’t forget about the bed rail on the cab end of the bed. I noticed both of these when I bought mine. Convince Toyota to install the cubby and the rail for me. Probably means I paid too much for the truck. Either way they are both nice things to have.

I think the stock back up cam on my 19 is fine. Works with no issues. You want a crap back up cam buy a Chrysler 300. I went through 3 of them in 4 years due to their garbage quality and using the lowest cost suppliers.

But was it high quality image when it worked lol?

FCA has one of the best backup cameras image quality wise right now in the industry. But I have heard of them having issues rebooting and malfunctioning, which is probably more UConnect related than actual cam related. Mine has been perfect though.

Another make that has terrible backup cams is Mazda.

My 18’s camera is crap. Poor image quality, washed out colors, almost looks B&W.
We also have an ‘18 Honda CRV and a ‘17 Hyundai Tucson, and both of those cameras have sharpness, punchy colors, and a seemingly Hi Def image.

My ‘18 Honda CR-V has a very sharp, colorful camera. Honda didn’t have to include such a good camera since they’ll sell every CR-V they could make.

Actually it was a bit fuzzy.....mine was a 2015 model. The cameras would eventually die, the picture would turn a solid RBG color or all black and say system not available. I also had 7 recalls on that car. A vehicle that essentially came out in 2005, had a refresh in 2011 and should have had all the bugs worked out. No more Chrysler stuff for me after that. lol

My 17 SR5’s camera was incredible, even in the dark. My 2021 Sport camera is garbage compared.

    serious downgrade

I have a 2020, honestly I love my truck and some of the do dads but I'd go back to my 2017, still pretty much the same truck.

I just got a 2021 Off road and my wife thinks it rides better than her 2019 Off road. She has leather seats and mine are cloth, I wonder if that has something to do with the way it rides. The backup camera is sharper on my 2021 than it is on her 2019. Mine also sits about 1 1/2" higher than hers, not sure why that would be.
