Kind of annoys me people always talk about insurance with this subject. Not everyone has the same coverage.

USAA, does not replace glass for free unless state law requires it, only the repair. My wife's 2017 Honda Pilot has had three new windshields in two years, it's getting expensive.

    https://www.usaa.com/inet/wc/faq_PC_Auto_Accident_PCFAQ_index

"Your windshield and auto glass are covered under comprehensive coverage. Your deductible doesn't apply when your windshield is repaired, which is why USAA promotes windshield repair when and where possible.

The following states have specific coverage and deductibles: AZ, CT, FL, KY, MA, MN, NY and SC. Please review your policy for further details.

The claims department determines whether repair is possible and if the deductible will apply for glass replacement at the time a claim is reported."

All those gimmicks in these trucks are going to cost lots of money when they need replacing due to age/damage.

Usually when you change that kind of coverage, insurance will do an inspection before approval. If your glass is broken, you will need to replace it before changing coverage.

@LivinOnEdge , LMAO man i'm glad Alabama doesn't do vehicle inspections or inspect your vehicle before they will insure it.....must just be a cali thing....literally called and said hey can i change my coverage on my truck since it only costs me $2 more a month to have a $0 deductible.. 2 weeks later bam rock in the windshield, dropped it off 2 hrs later picked it back up with a OEM windshield and zero money from me.. enjoy your weekend you guys, its been fun to read through all this and hopefully anyone who reads it will do their own research for their area and have as good luck as i did

    True

In Colorado and Arizona you just call and change your policy. Typically there is a grace period where you cant make a claim. In Arizona with Progressive insurance my wait was 5 days.

Parents moved to Alabama recently. State farm in florida covered windshield no deductable. But if they waited till they moved, it was 250 deductible. Go figure

Brand new Pilkington replacement, from our local Southern Auto Glass. It's just like the OEM one, ceramic dots, camera/rearview mounts, GOPro mount and all. These guys came to my work and were in and out, in under a half hour. No wind noise, looks just like factory and I couldn't be more pleased!

Well crap, I just had mine done today. Same Pilkington glass, looks good, even has the Gopro mount, but I paid after tax $505.

Wow, must be a geographical thing, like the price of a gallon of gas. I thought mine would cost that much to begin with. Im glad it wasnt!

With special thanks to a tri-axle running without a load cover, I took these three yesterday:

    IMG_5483.jpg

Thought I took a round of buckshot. I got the license number and company name, with mile marker. Not sure that will matter, I understand they generally ask you to prove it was off their load, and not off the tire/road.

Here in PA "Lane Deviation" is kind of a joke with all the potholes we dodge, it just beeps pretty much continuously. Anyway, confirmed my insurance comprehensive will cover repair without deductible, but not replace. I'll let them try a repair first, if it gets close to looking good, and will stop the spread, I'll let it go till the next time.

With Geico and with Safelite Glass they said the damage has to be inside that of a dollar bill for them to try to do a repair over a replace. I will tell you that if you do end up replacing to make sure you shop around. There is quite a spread in prices.

That sucks to see man. It's definitely a sinking feeling. A repair will keep it from spreading, but cracks will still be there to see, every time you get in the truck. From what I see, the next time you turn on your defroster, that thing's gonna run, if it hasn't done so already. Then your insurance will cover it. Good luck either way!

I went through this drill recently and it was $499 to replace windshield + additional $300 for ADAS calibration. You have to continue through the glass quote to get to this option.

Also have $1k deductible because this is not daily driver. Got the chip (which turned into a crack almost immediately) at around 1k miles and about 5 weeks after buying it.

They took the lazy way out and didn't remover the wipers and cowl shame on them. Problem when doing that when they go to set the window in place it pushes the glues off the pinch weld. So hopefully you don't have any problems with that in the near future. Lazy installers. I've been in the auto Glass trade since 2006. And I can't even begin to tell you how many windows I've replaced because of that very same reason.

But anyone can just go get the same insurance as me...I’m just saying it’s insane with these prices and quotes when I’ve never ran into the issue of these crazy rates! How is the price difference so different? Seems off

You don't realize how expensive insurance rates are in some places. People also have been vetted from being in their own insurance so long, leaving and starting fresh will hike rates.
