I ran the numbers on bumping my deductible down. The math does not seem to work for a low deductible. I would have to have a $800+ claim every 3 years 9 months to break even on having a $200 vs $1000 deductible. I suspect Warren Buffett has done the math as well.

I opted out of getting a Denali 3500 for this very reason (and a few others like sunroof). In CO windshield replacements are frequent, so there’s no way in hell I would have the lane departure system on my tow rig.

To put in perspective, I have replace in the past 3 years:

    Lexus: 3
    GMC: 2
    Tacoma: 1
    Subaru: needs replaced.

I just replaced my w/s in my 16. Here in Calif your insurance will not pay for a Toyota brand w/s. I was told that by State Farm and the 3 high end body shops where I got estimates. Toyota ones were almost $800 with labor and on Toyotas you have to replace the side moldings because they cant be saved when being removed. I got a PPG one with the camera mount for $389 OTD. Time will tell if the glass is inferior.

I feel like pilkington is garbage and overpriced because their relationship with toyota. Anything seems more resilient than pilkington. But thats my opinion.

I have a 2018 and I have had my windshield replaced twice already. My insurance is with Progressive and I pay about 7 a month for glass coverage on all windows and I have 0 deductible and Progressive will allow OEM glass during the first 2 years of the vehicle. You will have to have it done at the center though so that they can recalibrate the lane alert and the sensor. I am in AZ though and I know that makes a difference.

When I bought my Tacoma 3 weeks ago, to get me to buy the extended coverage plan, the business manager quoted me $1,600 to replace the windshield. I still didn’t buy the extended coverage.

Sounds like the $885 quote the OP got was a bargain!

I ended up finding a place that charged $450 which was $505 after tax and a disposal fee. However reading the various posts it looks like I could have got a better price.

Im on the same boat. I was quoted 700+ by Safelite. So I called Toyota and asked about this calibration crap... Toyota said they charge over 400 to calibrate the lane departure camera. I said screw it, Im not worried about getting the camera calibrated then. This is ridiculous.

Here is the invoice the dealership gave me for my records of the windshield replacement costs on my 2018. It was covered under the factory warranty so I didn’t pay anything for the replacement.image.jpg

Seems like your WS was not cracked due to an outside source. Seems like a factory issue and that's why its covered under warranty.

I generally would stay away from safelite. Just go though your insurance and push for OEM. My lexus windshield was $2k.

Honestly, that sounds about right, I don't think you're going to find a lower price.

I had a 2018 RAV 4 as a loaner during my rear diff recall and I cracked the windshield and when I took it into safelight they quoted me about $1,000 due to the "lane departure camera needing to be reattached and calibrated to the windshield". The guy said if it wasn't for the camera id be paying somewhere between 300-400 for the windshield replacement.

That's the same price I got from 2 non OEM places, then add on 1-2 hrs labor and youre right about $800. Someone mentioned about their insurance covering chips and replacement. I think every policy will cover chips, and the replacement (NON OEM Glass plus you pay your deductible on a replacement)

My turn on window replacement on my 2020 with 5200 miles. State Farm $0 cost. Safelite rep said would have been $1000 if no insurance.

I got mine done a few weeks ago. Was $267 including the camera mount and all. Safelite was within $20, but I don't like them.
