I noticed there are at least three engineers who posted in this thread. None of us know each other, we are all in different disciplines yet we all told you basically the same thing. It's not babble, it's math.

My previous vehicle was a Volvo. No windshield issues at all...sold it at 110K with original windshield. My new Tacoma had many rock chips after just 2 months of driving on the hyw. Finally, it cracked after an F150 in front of me kicked up a rock. When I went to Safelite there was two other Tacoma’s there getting new windshields. I thought nothing of it...then when I started researching how bug screeen can also protect the windshields from rocks....

You cited law of averages when probability and external variables are significant in this topic....engineer? Gamblers fallacy. And to negate
variables and imply your law also suggests you have the same likely hood of getting struck by lighting in an open field where thunderstorms are more probable as you are at a location where lighting infrequently occurs and your surrounded by larger grounding objects because 1/3000.

Like I said. Just a witness at this point. Have fun.

Does Toyota require calibration on the camera be performed after the windshield is replaced? If so do you guys with replacement insurance get that labor covered too? There was a thing on the news recently about insurance not covering the calibration labor after replacement.

My windshield was just replaced by Safelite. I hear no difference in road noise at all. The new windshield clearly has the Toyota logo and factory GoPro mount. Safelite had a room with sensors/ markings/ a VooDoo priestess or some such amenity to calibrate the camera.

I live in Florida and my comprehensive coverage paid for everything.

Need a new windshield. Only glass available is from dealer. The glass Is $566 and the recalibration is $417. Plus whatever the install costs. Insurance paying for it, but damn that is a lot.

Toyota does suck at this point it’s about the cost to replace a windshield, the crap, crack and how so what, I got hit by one rock and my windshield looks like a spider web with no time to repair and it is a $1000 bucks as stated by the poster of this thread. That is outrageous and does speak to quality. We all get cracks but 2018 owners and above sure pay for it.

My insurance threatened me if I file the claim it will go against me, so I am paying out of pocket. What a sham

I just had a new windshield put in by Safelite for my 2016 (new to me SR5), there was a large gash on the inside in my driving line of sight so I managed to negotiate a replacement into the sale. The replacement was $399 (+tax +mobile service) so about $460. No too bad I thought...but of course I didn't have to cough it up.

Mine cracked at about 650 miles. Call the Guinness Book. My Jeep Wrangler lasted 50k miles before needing a replacement.

    50,000 > 650

Check out the odometer. Is this the quality I should expect from a $40k vehicle?

That really sucks. Hope it works out.

Had my windshield replaced after a tiny rock hit the edge of glass. Was quite surprised at the hole it left. Toyota windshields seem to be quite fragile.

Had it replaced at speedy glass thru my insurance and no issues. The only thing is they left some black sealant spots on my fenders and the go pro mount didnt say go pro anymore...:(

Anybody from Canada know the approximate cost to replace the windshield on a 2018?

Not sure if that helps, but I did it through my insurance (fkn ICBC) and paid 200$ deductable. Speedyglass' invoice was about 1100 to replace it.

Im on my 2nd windshield which is already cracked and im only at 20k km, so im not replacing it anytime soon.

Yikes!! That's steep! It isn't affecting my vision yet and it just missed the TSS sensor. Guess I'll hold off for a bit.

Good choice. My first crack went in circles right in front of my eyes, so it was very annoying, i had to replace it. The second one
Is a big circle on the passenger side, so i dont care. I actually got another chip recently in my second cracked windshield.

Never had issues with windshields cracking or chipping before i bought my taco. I dont tailgate and try to avoid big trucks, go figure.

Mines got a small chip, not much bigger than a pencil lead. Should I try to get it filled or is it even possible for one that small
