Well, it wasn't defective. There actually was a TINY little nick in it, had to be from previous ownership. Just wanted to follow up on what I found. Now to decide aftermarket or OEM. If OEM breaks this easy I may just go aftermarket and take my chances.

I had the windshield on my 2015 Subaru Legacy break a few years ago, from a flying rock on the highway... courtesy of a large truck without flaps. And then, last year, my 2018 Tacoma suffered a similar fate when logging truck dropped a rock on it's tire (from a log) and catapulted it forward while I was passing in the opposite direction. After talks with an area glass installer, he mentioned that the glass is being made significantly thinner to compensate for the larger windshields (increased slopes for aerodynamics, and such). I am thinking we need more states where windshield replacement is exempt from insurance deductibles... combined with drivers doing FOD checks after having their vehicles off-road.

Will be switching over to an aftermarket but same brand windshield next weekend. According to the Safelite installer near my place, he said they could use Pilkington glass instead of Safelite brand, just no Toyota on it. Save cash.

2017 Tacoma with simpler windshield for the win. Good Luck getting that remedied

I get what you're saying, but I think off road vehicles aren't the issue. The majority of these rocks are coming from on road cases.

Makes me glad that the 2016 doesn’t have all that...
