At least it's on the Box, not the Cab. But still, not cool.

I won't say why I know, but it's because it's cheaper to keep her in terms of a bad process. To be clear, its cheaper to just fix what actually fails instead of fixing the process for good.

Man I fucked up buying a white one. I was bent on Cavalry Blue, not available for 2020, chose white because I wouldn't see scratches. It peels and evidently due to the same reason, rusts (even worse).
    :annoyed:

Good luck brother, I usually go the route of "give the dealer a chance, see what they do" route, and I would here but I definitely understand your reaction. I'd be the same...

It's quite unfortunate that little things like this you'd only learn after owning the vehicle.

Any idea if they will also remove a bed rack and RTT to get the box off? This isn't happening to me, but if it does and I have to take it in, I'm very much in the "Not my fault, I'm not doing shit to help" kind of mindset lol

Too many trucks and mods to list.. check builds
Haven’t seen one come in work yet. But Toyota’s white paint is notoriously shit.
Come to think of it every car my family’s owned that’s white (Chevy ford, Toyota, Nissan) has rusted prematurely. Only one that hasn’t is my mother’s flex.. but it’s that white with pearl in it.

Take it in, they’ll sublet to a body shop and it should be better than new.

It's not the tech's fault and if you dont want your stuff accidentally damaged (honestly unintentionally), then take your own stuff off. They don't know how it went on and are paid book time, so it will come off fast and if it even goes back on, it won't be how you like it. If you're getting it painted for free, throw the techs a bone. It will make everything better; better turn around time, better quality work on their part, your stuff doesn't get messed with. Your anger should be directed toward toyota as a company, not the guys at the shop.

I would be pissed and do nothing but clown a guy that wouldn't take a stupid tent off a truck to get paintjob, would likely point it right back toward the lot and tell you to try again. -former flatrate me.

Not a big deal, as in it will be taken care of?

Or the rust isn't a big deal?

The rust isn't a big deal. I get where you are coming from though. See what the dealer says...

Probably going to have to send pics to dealer due to covid-19. However, for what you spend on these trucks I do not believe that you should see rust for years. I have literally had the truck for 6 to 7 months

That's a crying shame. The white paint has a recall and the corrosion is probably after the fact. I wonder if the rust is extensive enough to warrant replacing the bed sides and the bulkhead. Cory, are you in Columbus?

I live in Ohio and my 17 Tacoma with 26000 miles has no rust issues at all unless you look at the frame. I pressure wash it every week including the frame during the salt months. I am concerned how much rust the frame is starting to get. It did get the CRC treatment last month.
That is not normal or except-able with the rust bleed through and scabs on a 19 model. If the dealership wont fix it take it higher. Good luck.

this is the best reminder, you NEED to coat your automobiles with a rust barrier, lube, fluid film, ziebart, woolwax, cosmoline etc... PRIOR TO IT SEEING IT'S FIRST WINTER, OR WHEN LIVING NEAR A BODY OF SALT WATER. it is part of the maintenance of an auto, IF YOU WANT IT TO LAST. this is on us, if the manufacturer wont provide it for us. they are not in the business of making an auto last, they are in the business to sell more autos. it is up to the individual, how long you want it to last.

do your research, pick your poison, and coat it every fall BEFORE the first snow/salt event. at least, it will give you a fighting chance. your results may vary, dont shoot the messenger. :D Ski

Sorry but I truthfully don't think people are woolwaxing their paint. And no one is waxing or ceramic coating between their cab and bed.

To the OP... I live in PA and have about the same amount of miles. Zero rust on the same areas or anywhere on the paint. Underside has a little on the leafs. So not a regular occurrence. Hoping the dealer can help you out, cause that's bull.
