    Hello all,

I’m fairly new here being an FJ owner for ten plus years. I modified the FJ over the years, but now it’s finally time to part ways. I picked up a 4x4 Tacoma SR the beginning of this year and love it. Little 4 cyclinder and perfect for a daily driver.

I am thinking about getting rid of both and consolidating to one vehicle. However, I need this for my daily driver here on the east coast.

I love the look of the Pro, just curious if anyone uses theirs as a DD. I drive about 15 miles a day each way to work in Philly traffic. I was a little worried with the upgraded suspension for a DD.

I am not doing all the lift, mods, tires, etc that I did with the FJ, but wanted something that stands out a little. I do absolutely no off road other then the snow. Just here for the looks anymore...haha

Anyone using the Pro or Off-road as their DD in the city? Pros and Cons? Or stick with a Sport? Has to be a TRD.

    Thanks!

I wouldn't spend that kind of money just to stand out on pavement, but it's your decision.
Why not stick with your 4 cylinder? You like it, no body else cares what you drive- in fact, they will probably run their uninsured asses in to your pretty new truck while texting anyway.

Why not a TRD sport? Comes with the hood scoop, better on-road manners, and you can dress it up a little bit to make it look more aggressive. Find some OR takeoff wheels/tires, etc

I’ve got an OR with all the Pro Mods (minus the hood) and it is my DD ... no issues. The upgraded suspension is even better than the OR’s OEM setup on the road!!

My OR is a daily driver and does well around town and still allows me to hit the trails on the weekends. I upgraded the wheels and tires but it performed well stock. I was looking at a Pro but just couldn't justify the added cost and didn't want the leather seats. The OR gave me a room to make the truck my own over time and it rekindled my interest in working on vehicles again something I hadn't done since my 1995 Jeep Wrangler.

I don't have a long commute and so far the MPG is right at what I would expect but to some it is a con especially in bumper to bumper traffic. I personally like sitting higher than most vehicles so I can spot trouble ahead so its a trade off. The OR suspension especially with my wheel/tire setup can be stiff but the roads in this city suck and it handles the potholes and divots well. My Jeep Liberty would rattle your teeth on some of the roads around here so my OR is a step up on so many levels.

I don't think you can go wrong with a Sport, OR, or Pro but it just depends on how much you want to spend. I see a lot of Pros in this city that look as pristine as the day they were bought so I don't think they see much off road action aside from a few snowy days and maybe a camping trail now and then.

I love my OR as my daily with a 40 mile round trip in SoCal traffic. I like sitting a little higher to see over at least some of the traffic. So far I’m digging the soft suspension and have no intentions on lifting. The only change I might make is wheels if I can find the right ones. I like the pro trucks but didn’t consider one because of the discount I got on this off road. I hate car dealers and wouldn’t consider paying near full price (or over on a pro in SoCal) on any vehicle.

I’m not sure that I understand you, OP.

what do you mean “Anyone using the Pro or Off-road as their DD in the city?”....?

what else would people do with them? We aren’t talking about Ferraris

just like any other regular vehicle, they are perfectly fine to drive in the city.

My TRD Pro ride is similar to a Ford Raptor that I test drove a while back. A well cushioned ride on normal street pavement thanks to the 2.5-inch Fox® Internal Bypass Fox Shocks.

Thanks ... I kinda like the very little chrome that’s left (mirror turn signals, door badge and tailgate emblems) ... makes it a bit more unique!

The final choice is yours, but personally I would think a Sport should cover your listed desires and needs. You get the 4x and traction controls to help with bad conditions and the looks with the skewp, but with a better pavement ride and less hit to your wallet.

I just came off of 2nd Gen Sport, and I love it and it was a fine DD, but I wanted something better for the trails.

Have a Pro for a daily driver/weekend adventure rig and on road and off its a much more comfortable ride and responsive ride than the stock OR in my opinion. If you're not planning on tinkering with it then I would recommend the Pro even more. Especially if the 2020 stuff doesn't appeal to you/isn't a deal breaker you can get a pretty decent deal on a leftover 2019. Also, to each their own but I love mine being an MT.

Just my opinion for you - I just got my OR about a month ago and DD it. I mostly drive city and some highway. About 20mi round trip to work. I came from an Mitsubishi Evo X on coilovers and when i test drove the sport first thing I noticed that suspension was almost as stiff as the Evo. I didn't want the same stiff ride if i'm getting into a truck, so test drove the OR and loved it, nice cushy ride, eats up the countless potholes where i live, and im not trying to street race or anything so the body roll, which is so minimal is not an issue for me. I'm sure I would have enjoyed the pro even more, but I'll just continue to dream for now.

Test drive and decide for yourself. Good Luck!

Thank you everyone who was able to provide the pros and cons of your experiences. There was some real helpful information passed that will help me make my final decision. Looks like it’ll be test driving the OR and Pro here soon. Thanks!
