FWIW I did what you did for the first 5,000 miles or so (babied the transmission and tried to get the best mpg possible)

when I just started giving it the beans (and moving my seat up so I wasn’t so far back from the accelerator) it seemed to adapt to my driving and now I sometimes think I’m in S mode when I’m actually still in drive. Likes to shift around 2.5-3k rpm.

The dealer did the reset thing too and it didn’t make much of a difference, just have to put that pedal down and it figures it out eventually.

I think driving in S mode actually helped it too. I certainly don’t have the issues people claim to have with these transmissions. Could be because I split double duty with a POS 2000 Chevy Prism too, but it works fine for me. Sometimes likes to shift a little early but it gets the job done.

    TL;DR
Quit being lazy and push that accelerator down

Side tip: the better way to search this forum is with google. Go to google type in your inquiry then type tacomaworld at the end (or at the beginning). Much better than the on-site search function.

    Thank you.

This is the type of link/ information I was looking to find. Useful with explanations.

I appreciate you not just throwing birdshit icing onto a bullshit cake while pretending the problem is me - and the transmission is just fine. Lol.

Seems like most 3rd gen owners here are suffering from Stockholm syndrome and want to pretend everything is just fine.

You definitely need to have the dealer recompile the ECU firmware.

JFC guys. Just answer the question or don't. Shit like UsE tHe SeArCh and claiming trolling for asking about a common complaint is just as annoying as new members asking the same questions we all did.

OP get the dealer to update the trans software. Adjust the ACC distance if you haven't so you don't slow do too soon and pass people doing 50. Disconnect the battery for a bit might reset the learning period then drive it normally. That's about all you can do.

Why do you bother with a thread you don't like? And why the drama?

The auto is fine for the most part if you only do city driving under 55 mph. Outside of that, you start to see the issues

I was doing an extensive amount of travel for work and it really suffered on the interstate (65-70 mph). i had about 45k miles on mine and was trying to figure out what to do with mine. At the time, gears were still in development and tuning was not yet a thing

I found a MT sitting on a lot I took for a test drive. I couldn’t believe how much differently they drove. I then placed an order for the one I have now.

the gears in the AT are way too tall from the factory IMO, especially after how much different the MT drives. Especially when people start doing lifts, tires, etc.

If I had an AT today, the first thing I would do is head from the dealer to get new gears (4.88 as I’d stay stock size tire anyway) then I’d add the tune to fix the underlying issues with the shift logic and funky power band.

He needs to learn the way I learned, from my father and how he learned from his father before him. This is a forum dude. Relax.

And what has he "learned?" You certainly haven't addressed the guy's issues he's having with his Tacoma. Clowning on someone isn't "learning" them anything.

How about you not worry about me, and since you are a "pro" here, you try and address the OP's concerns?
