Everyone says this... but there are plenty of Tacoma’s getting 13-15 mpg. My tundra averages 14.5 and has a 38 gallon tank as opposed to the Tacoma’s 21 gallon tank.

I’m real confused why the guy with the second gen is in the third gen forum..

The third gen auto is garbage. It’s a known fact. It’s like every 5 threads in this forum.. its kinda what we do here.

The Tundra's 5.7 and six speed are super smooth. Using control, it will do what most vehicles do when you hit resume after slowing down. You may only need to get from 60 to 70mph, but it has no intention of using anything less than all 381 hp to do it. The bright side is, it only takes a second to do that.

It would downshift at most of the same places as my Tacoma and my wife's 4Runner, though it may only go from 6th to 5th. It's a good truck, but it's bigger than I needed and wasn't a great daily driver. I averaged about 14 mpg while I had it.

went without resetting the avg for about 1200 and averaged about 17, so I'll agree. Driving was a mix between calm and "I'll get there soon enough" to "google says 30min drive, we'll be there in 10"

Very much agree. once it's warmed up, it no problem going and the shifting is butter

3rd Gen automatic transmission is fine. Solid. The 3rd Gen ECM software changed from sequential shifting to non sequential shifting.

Yeah i know.. i posted the link earlier lol

The trans can be made to work but its still geared too high from Toyota IMO. The difference between the MT and the AT is staggering. It’s hard to believe its the same motor.

That's why I drive around town with S-Mode in 3rd and leave it there. Older brother has a 2018 Tacoma 4-cylinder and once I showed him to just drive around town with S-Mode in 3rd or 4th... He's happy. Lots of torque.
