Just shift between 4 5 6 as you drive it home.

I wouldn't do it. Why take the risk of being harder on the truck and motor than Toyota recommends?

I would not drive a brand new truck (motor) 75mph for 4 hours, but that's me. I'm one of those people that thinks the manufacturer has a legitimate reason for even having a section of the manual titled "Breaking in your new Toyota" with several bullet points. If Toyota wasn't worried about any of these points...they would have said so or not even *have* such a section of the manual.

After your first 1,000 miles, then drive it however you like.

Fair opinion and good points. Honestly the thought never occurred to me when I bought mine and hightailed it south.

I think this is going to be a cluster of different opinions.

@hardspun what makes this Tacoma the right one vs something more local?

Sorry sorry... I’m cool it’s good. I know when I’ve been beat he’d just fan out my flaming perm with the frisbee!

Auto? 4th in the MT pulls nicely above 75mph all the way to the speed limiter (for a 4cyl truck).

On a closed course, of course

My brother got a 2019 Pro a few weeks ago, and we were both racing on the highway the night he bought it, just drive it like you would normally drive your 04

@hardspun what makes this Tacoma the right one vssomething more local?

I want the manual transmission in a 2019 TRD access cab. Very few left, the closest with an acceptable deal is 250 miles away.

Put cruise on 65 for some time. Then accelerate to 70mph for some time and then back down and up again until you finish the recommended break in period.

I'd be more concerned about what the young buck does with your 04

The drive to me would mostly be rural interstate in Kentucky and Tennessee. My fear is the trade driver jockey will go straight down and straight back. I have little doubt, under these conditions, that this person would go cruise for perhaps 100 miles.

If it was me, I would want to be the one driving it back, trying to follow the recommended break in procedure.

Maybe have your grandson drive you out there.

Could be a memorable road trip for you both.

Good luck with the new truck whatever you decide to do.

Tell them to put it on a truck and drive it down! Damn the dealer delivery fee has to count for something!
