It would concern me too. Every engine that I have owned whether it was an outboard, a mower or a vehicle had a recommended break in procedure. And even if it didn't I babied it for the first 6 months/6000 miles. I don't really give a damn whether anyone else does it, that's your money and your kitty, but I pay good money for my stuff and I want it to last. If I can get an edge by following the break in procedure I'm going to do it every time.

Are you generally afraid to drive your vehicles?

Yeah, this is the best idea by miles.

The reality is that the odds are overwhelming that you'll be fine either way. But if it was me, I'd do this ^^^ Just for the peace of mind. Because if you're worried about it now, and having second thoughts about letting them drive it up already, then after you take delivery, every time there's a clunk or a bang or a shudder, your brain's going to race to visions of some 19-year-old service tech on his third day on the job hot-rodding it up the highway between dealers.

Make it an all-day road trip if you can spare a day. I picked my taco up at a dealer almost exactly the same distance away as what you're looking at--I live in the middle of nowhere in terms of dealer inventory and it was the only way I could get what I wanted. It took all damn day thanks to the two hours spent at the dealer and some holiday weekend traffic, but it was worth it, and I loved it. And if you get to spend half the trip shooting the shit with your grandson, so much the better.

That's pretty much my thinking. For my own peace of mind, I'll drive it back myself.

I had the same situation with mine as they got from dealer about 100 miles away. I got mine with a little over 100 miles (186Km.) as I think it is safer and easier to drive than load it on trailer and chain it down and they had a retired truck driver driving dealer trades so it arrived in perfect condition. Mine went on the 401 expressway at around 65 MPH (110KPH) or higher and I have the 4 banger and probably better than a lot of town driving shifting all the time. I would not worry if I was you as you will enjoy your truck. They put the mileage on invoice and warranty starts from mileage you pick it up at. I wanted to go with them and drive it back but they declined for insurance purposes and would charge to trailer it. Interstate driving is probably easy for your truck as it is a V-6 and the driver will get to notice if there are any problems to be addressed before you take delivery. Mine with a 4 cylinder 5 speed only revs about 2300 rpm in 5th at 65 MPH so yours should be less than that. Hope this eases your mind

No, not at all. I am concerned about some lower level dealership employee putting the first 250 miles on my brand new truck. I am even more concerned since these miles could very well be "constant and extended".

You should be worried about the guys doing their test drives on it more than that drive. I did a donut in everything I test drove including my current truck. Whatever.

Break in period , seriously, what a fucking joke. Being a former Toyota mechanic and having owned 4 Toyota trucks with more than 350k on each one of them never once broke one in and they drove great when I got the next one. Break in period :rofl::rofl:

Set it at 90 mph for four hours. Fill up and do it again, every day for months. Thats constant.
Go 60, then go 75, then pull in rest stop, then go 70. This is not hard. Don't use cruise is my only advice.

I just drove my new 19 about 400 miles and thrue 2 states to get my new truck home. As others have said just dont keep it at exactly one speed. When I drove home for the 6 hour ride I didnt use cruise once for this exact reason even though I love cruise. I'd slow down a little then speed up a little , stop every few hours for a quick break etc.
I watched a video where these brand new Corvettes were coming right off the factory line and the very first thing they did to this brand new vette right at the end of the line was put it in a dyno and beat the shit out of it. I'm talking wide open throttle like you stole it. That's your first mile or so on the odometer. If its gonna break its gonna do it right there and then.
