    Two questions:
    1. Any reason this wouldn't fit on a 2016 TRD off-road?
    2. Could I take it through an automated carwash without it being ripped off? Lol

Yes it will fit, you need the fender and the entire kit. Just get an ARB. Yes you can run through a car wash.

Interesting, I thought I remember reading that you shouldn't go through automatic car washes. Was that a rumor?

Not a rumor, Toyota says that. It’s a CYA thing.

    YMMV.

So at best you have your truck cleaned for minimal effort, at worst you hydrolock and need a new engine. Got it. :fingerscrossed:

Hydrolocking is a non-issue. The intake is designed to allow you to drive through a torrential downpour without issue. I have gone through auto was hundreds of times (literally I have an unlimited wash pass) without issue. I did have it pop the snorkel head off once but it was already damaged. New undamaged snorkel head has been good to go.

Any idea as to what is Toyota's reasoning behind their recommendation?

My understanding is that they are concerned with the snorkel getting ripped off but I don't know for sure.

Take it from me you can not take this through a car wash. If you want to buy a oem snorkel you will need to get a vin# off of another trd pro that has it from the factory. I just bought a 2020 trd pro without the snorkel and just got mine last week with this method. Comes with no instructions or template. NOT FUN !!. In the box was a sheet that said, no car washes and you need to turn the air pick up around facing the rear of truck when driving into snow... This is fact !!!! Good luck !!!

Again, the not going through car wash is not due to water it is due to the car wash agitators risking the snorkel. In addition, turning around the snorkel head due to snow is not because of water ingestion, it is because thick heavy snow can clog the snorkel grate limiting air flow. You turn it around to ensure that you can get air to the motor.

After re watching the video I noticed it has a bracket attaching the top of the snorkel to the roof rack mounts, so I would guess the only issue would be the had popping off, with wouldn't be a big problem

It’s a total CYA thing for Toyota. Keep in mind every car wash is a little different. They have the touch-less power sprayers and the chamois style rollers. If it’s too much of a concern buy a power washer with a long hose and blast the muck off into your not so nice neighbors yard.

The head popping off unfortunately requires a whole new head. It is mounted to the snorkel body with two thumb screws. If the head manages to pop off it means that the screws ripped through the bottom of the head.
