    Hey all,

I’ve been dealing with this noise for a few months now. It only happens in reverse. 1st visit to the dealership resulted in them pulling apart the passenger rear drum and discovering a rub spot on the back plate. 2nd visit they tried to tell me that it was my UCA rubbing on my tire lmao. So, now I’m pretty pissed off. I’m leaving it with them this weekend, so they can figure out what it is. I only have 18k miles on the truck, so I don’t think this should be happening. Please see the attached video. Anyone have any ideas as to what it could be, or have similar experiences with this noise?

    That sounds ugly.
I don't have any guess to the problem, too many things in play.

Right!? The “Toyota tech” was trying to play it off like it wasn’t a big deal. I hear ya though - tough to pinpoint the cause of the noise. I’ll post updates this Sunday.

Wow. My first thought was rear drums over adjusted or maybe rusty but it sounds like they looked into that. Have you been through any water that may have entered the drums before this started?

My first thought was the drums because it didn’t start happening until after I went in for my 10k service, and I figured they bent something during the tire rotation. When I brought it back that’s when they found the “rub spot” inside the drum. According to the tech, they didn’t find anything wrong with the drums this time, but based off of a few other things that happened I’m not too confident that he even pulled the drums apart. From the minute I walked up to the service advisors desk, she was telling me that it was the UCA...in the rear...which doesn’t exist lol. On the service report the tech confirmed it was the UCA, which it obviously wasn’t, so that led me to requesting a tech to come out to the parking lot with me. I asked him if he actually heard the sound from the UCA and he said he didn’t, but he wrote that because the service advisor told him that was where the noise was coming from. Total incompetence. He then confirmed the noise after I had him stand near the rear while I reversed the truck. He had no idea what it was and told me to make another apt and leave the truck with them for an entire day. That’ll happen this weekend...so I’m hoping they figure this shit out.

How many clicks does it take for your parking brake handle to be tight? Should be 7 from factory. Tighter and the shoes may drag.

13 to the top, and I never use my parking brake.

Just wanted to give everyone an update. After leaving my truck at the dealership all weekend they came to the conclusion that it was “most likely the leaf springs”. I wasn’t buying it, so I showed them the same video posted above (would have sent it earlier but didn’t have a contact so that’s my fault), and now I have to go back for a 4th visit.
