The steward's decision was unanimous and they have now explained it fully. Apparently in addition to everything we saw they also analyzed Vettel's steering inputs in slow motion plus some CCTV footage. In suspect they also have telemetry data we don't have but that isn't mentioned.

Nico Rossberg has also weighed in. He not only agrees with the penalty 100% but is also rather unkind to Vettel in his analysis. I figured he would still have a hard on for Hamilton, not Vettel. Interesting.

Agreed. There will still be strong disagreement but at least they took a shot at transparency.

 

It just seems like more inconsistency from the Stewards. If you cut someone off and they lose a front wing or tyre it's ok, it's racing. Rejoining the track ahead of someone and not making contact but taking the racing line away deserves a penalty.

 

You're going to have to define "he" better, since all three of them qualify.

 

I'm confused, this did not deserve a penalty according to Nico, but Vettel's does?

Pretty interesting. I thought at the time that if he had left HAM a car's width -- on or off the track or racing line -- there would have been no penalty. But it looked to me as though he made a point of *not* doing so. Apparently the stewards came to a similar conclusion.

I also think HAM did all he could during the race to continue to try and get by after the incident. IOW he didn't just sit there and keep a close enough gap.

Rosberg's point about VET not just getting on with things after the penalty was known to him is a good one too. He does let things get to him too much sometimes. Trying to gain a 5+ second lead should have been his sole objective, but it wasn't.

All in all though, nobody wants to win or lose a race that way. No matter whose side you come down on it was an unfortunate circumstance.

 

Plenty of runoff in France. Wonder who is going to be unsafe this weekend?

 

Overhead views of that track give me "episodes." But I seem to recall the action being pretty good last year.

Rossberg is a little bitch. I have since canceled my subscription to F1 TV after this last race. It was the straw that broke the camels back shall we say. The feed was spotty at times & I am just over F1 in general. I will watch the good ole day F1 on Youtube.
