I have a 2019 Tacoma SR with the basic Entune head unit. Does anyone know if the 2020 head units that support Apple Car Play are compatible to my wiring (use the same connectors and wiring setup)? If so, I am hoping to find one on ebay or a salvage yard eventually. Thanks.

They are not a 1:1 swap, but you can buy an adapter harness to make it work. You’ll also have to buy a bigger bezel.

In process of collecting parts to do the swap myself

I have a 2020 and I'm not too impressed, I had a Pioneer NEX on my previous vehicle and it was far better than this stock unit. I will most likely upgrade down the road to another NEX head unit or the alpine halo 9. Why don't you just upgrade to a ready to install unit like this https://www.alpine-usa.com/product/alpine-halo9-toyota-tacoma-ilx-f309tcm

What don’t you like about the stock unit?

@burlow The stock unit has pretty terrible sound if you aren't running the stock speakers. Practically no bass in the last 30% of volume. The tuning is designed to not destroy the stock speakers at volume no matter how you change the eq. I tried using a LC7 converter to get better sound but really didnt help since the slope is pretty drastic from the stock unit. Once a quality aftermarket unit is installed there is a noticeable difference, even to someone who doesn't isnt an "audiophile". Running the stock unit to aftermarket speakers doesnt help as the source is junk and really only pushing ~15watts RMS

Maybe @ChrisIz has had a different experience though.

Just thought I'd share my experience.

Makes sense. I don’t have the JBL system so “good” audio would require new speakers anyway, which I don’t plan to get. Other than the sound quality, I assume there were no issues? (Responsiveness, lag, etc.)

Were you able to find an adapter harness and bezel?
