At 2500 miles my 2019 Tacoma Limited Edition rear end is howling very loudly at most speeds after it warms up. Took to dealer for rear end inspection. Dealer acknowledged howling and said they drove 2 new Tacoma’s from their lot, both supposedly had the same howl(Toyota’s/Dealers lack of concern) and dealer deemed it normal noise. I bought this vehicle for it’s supposed stellar reviews. I also bought it for a lot of family travel(scared to go on trips due to howling rear end) the side of hwy is a super dangerous place for anyone. I just hope that Toyota/Dealerships start addressing and fixing this issue. Wondering if I should have stayed with GM.

    Been an issue for years.

Toyota will fix it, sometimes. But when it comes back or they just don’t care they’ll say it’s normal.

    Welcome to TW.

You and your family are fine... turn up the radio, give the kids some headphones and a tablet and venture on

Thanks, I sorta figured that. I just expected more from such a tried and true vehicle.

They have reached a point of profit over quality at this point.... something the American companies have been at for years.

If the dealer deemed it as normal then have them reduced that to writing as it will shift the liability to them...if they are unwilling then you notify Toyota’s agent for service of process in Plano Texas as the warranty is a performance contract between the owner of the vehicle and Toyota. Keep in mind claims are always heard before complaints and I’m sure the paperwork you have in hand from the dealer reflects the latter.

I do have the service receipt from rear end inspection...that stated they heard it and deemed it normal

I’ll be up for my 5000 mile inspection soon and will definitely be bringing my rear end concerns up again.

There is no official fix for it. The DEALERS (not Toyota) may try to fix the noise by experimenting (and 99% of the time these fixes will not work in the long run), but there is no engineering-based fix for it from Toyota. The TSB that exists for previous years does not extend to the 19s because the 19s supposedly already have it from the factory.

The noise is inherent in the design of the truck. Nothing to worry about, you just need to get used to it.
